Expiry dates for posts

  1. meta

Often people post things that are only of short term interest.

    Examples:
"Next week [TV channel] is showing [program]"
"Anyone interested in dinner on Saturday?"
"Send me your address if you want a Christmas card"
"I've put [object] up for sale on eBay"

I would like to be able to *OPTIONALLY* specify an expiry date for any such posting. On the expiry date, the post would be automatically deleted, on the grounds that it's no longer of any relevance.

The default behavior would continue to be that posts didn't expire.

Obviously this could be done via a plugin.

I believe this would be a great implementation for WordPress and could definitely prove useful, especially for short term promotions or blog entries. One thing I would rather see, instead of automatically deleting the post, though, is maybe to set its status as private (or have an option to choose between deleting/setting to private).

Thanks for throwing this idea out there. :)

I agree with meta and sweet deal. It would be really great to be able to expire a post on a particular day. I have a list of music events on my site and they are listed with the upcoming events first. I'd like to have the post expire the day after or when ever I decide it to.

It shouldn't be deleted unless you have it do so otherwise. I'd like to keep it on my site, but only searchable. That way people that want to go back and check to see if the event was listed on the site.

I've waited on this one for a while. Hope more people find this valuable.

I have news feeds from the BBC on my site, but these add up very fast. I really only want to keep the last 7 days at max. From what I can see there is no way to purge these, only manually. Is that so?

I am very disappointed that there is still no such a plugin come out.

I think having an option of expiry date for posts is a basic function for wordpress.

    There is this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/post-expirator/

It doesn't look like you can set expiration on a post basis but at least it does something!

I like this idea, but i think of it little bit differently.

We run a small website that has expiring information (like: when we schedule holidays). I would like to have a list on my dashboard showing me pages i should be updating in the next 14 days, based on their expiry date.
