Dashboard widget manager

I'd like to have a dashboard widget manager that lets the admin decide which user roles can see which dashboard widgets.

I know there´s somewhere a plugin solution, but i think this is a feature that also could be implemented into core. Also the plugin development for this one seems to be stopped months ago.

Development never stopped if you're referring to the two plugins produced by myself and another community member.

Without any user feedback there's nothing further to develop (why would i work on something i get no feedback on). All my code is out in the open and contains to no restrictions (take it and expand it if you like).

I think the dashboard widgets should be totally optional myself, why we need to load all the widgets then optionally hide them is beyond me, it's needless.. (that's all the toggle feature does, hides them, the code still runs in the background - unnecessarily processing hidden widgets, at least last time i looked).

Most of my installs now include a extremely trimmed plugin which simply unsets the unwanted widgets(they no longer run). Not the end of the world installing a plugin each time but it would be nice for them to be optional.

Hence my 5 star agreement.. ;)

    Hi t31os_!

Thanks for your reply. I was talking about this plugin: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/clean-wp-dashboard/ Is this yours? Last Updated: 2009-4-23 & Compatible up to: 2.7.1 -> That´s why i thought it´s development stopped. At the moment this still works with 3.0 but missing a possibility to show widgets depending on user roles. But that´s not as important as a core function to remove single widgets completely for all users.

A handful of basic dashboard widgets will remain part of core, but additional dashboard widgets or specialized controls over them is definitely plugin territory.

If you need fine grained control over what user type sees what widget, give this plugin a go. Works with 2.9 - 3.0.
