Comment Reply Notification

I think WordPress should have, by default, an option to "follow" certain comments to posts, sending notification to the author of a comment, when yours is answered, just like here in the forum.

Ok, but it could be native, as is the WordPress.com.
We should avoid using plugins for basic things.

Ah, no, we should use plugins. In fact, .com is using a plugin.

Seriously. WordPress.com is using the same software we are, mostly, and they use the same plugins. The reason this stuff isn't built in, is that not everyone wants or needs this. There is a plugin that is, in fact, made by WordPress (called Jetpack) that is exactly what they use on their site, converted to work on as many of ours as possible.

So. No. Use the plugin :) not everything should be in core.

Hi Miriam & Ipstenu -- the core or plugin issue aside, I'd like people who leave a comment to be able to get an email that their comment was replied to (if they want one)

As far as I can see, neither WP.org core, nor the Jetpack plugin do this. If you use Jetpack AND you're logged in, it can use the notification bubble to tell you.

But if someone who isn't an active WP user visits and comments, I don't see a way for them to get an email that their discussion has been advanced, except by replacing the whole comment system with an alternate, like Disqus or Cackle etc

    Am I missing anything?

(you could check "notify me of follow up comments" - but I think this isn't ideal, 1 - because you now get ALL comments to that post, not just to your own comment thread, and 2 - if you click that but take 3 hours to wander over to your email and say you really meant it, meanwhile your comment was replied to in 10 minutes, then you'll never get a message about that reply)

    I think http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/subscribe-to-comments-reloaded/ does this...

I dont know if this discussion is still open but I thought I would try.

I would like the plugin that is used on this page

notify me of reply via email

It is simple and easy and important. People want to know that you care about their comments and take the time to answer them. I know you all know this.

2 problems I found when looking for a plugin like this

    1) "comment reloaded" doesst seem to have this option from what I just read

    2) "Send Email only on Reply to My Comment plugin" may have been abandoed. It has been 500 days since the last update.

Aslo, I want an easy captcha to help with spam.
    Can anyone help?
Thank you and best wishes to to you! Mary

This is the ideas forums, for ideas for future versions of WP :)

    Support is here: http://wordpress.org/support/

(Also plugins can still do this - Jetpack, Subscribe2, and so on. And yes, Subscribe to Comments reloaded does "notify me of reply via email" as a visitor, you just have to sign up for email alerts. If you're the author, that's built in to WP)

    Sorry. I didnt know.

I went to the forum page but didn't see a box to start a thread.

I have never have found it. This is the only place I have seen a comment box to ask a question.
How do I get to the box to write to support? I did go to the above link, but I dint see it.

It could be why myself and several others don't get replies.LOL!

    Thanks, Mary

It's a forum, same as this.

Go to the subforum that most closely matches your issue.

http://wordpress.org/support/forum/how-to-and-troubleshooting for example. Scroll down :) Fill in boxes. Post.

If you're asking about the plugin, go to http://wordpress.org/support/plugin/subscribe-to-comments-reloaded (there's a link for Support on all the plugin pages).
