Change the media file

I use media a lot to add several informations such as title and description, but also custom fields. Sometimes, I have uploaded my media, attached it to the right post and filled up all the fields, but I just want to change the actual uploaded file that is pointed to. Today, this is not possible : I have to upload my file as a new media, copy all the fields to the new media and attach it again to the right post.

Interesting. I also needed such functionality some weeks ago and I found a plugin, but it didn't work correctly.

I will try to write such plugin myself.

Enable media replace does the trick, but why on earth is this simple feature not a part of core?

While there's excellent "Enable media replace" plugin for doing this, the code is small and simple and I vote for adding this to core. It's a basic, core feature.

  7. Thanks for your support Ihor. I think the best way to push for this is by contributing to core : you can post an enhancement request to https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ and then submit a patch attached to this ticket with the proposed changes.

I think that this "ideas" board is not really read by the core contributors team.
