Comment form: Change label "URL" to "Your Homepage" or "Your Website Addres

  1. Nancy

About 20% of the people who comment on my blog write either "google" or "gmail" in the URL field of the comment form.

This makes me think that a number of people interpret this field as being a spot where you mention where you came from, i.e., how you found the blog post.

A less technical, more specific label (Your Homepage, Your Website, Your Website Address) -- perhaps with "URL" in parentheses after -- might be more helpful for commenters.

Yes, I realize that. Thank you.

I'm posting about it here b/c I'm wondering if a WordPress-wide update of the standard label would help internet users overall.

Just seems that many new/young users don't know what a field labeled "URL" is supposed to be used for.

    Thanks for the response.

  4. The problem is WordPress core can't do that. Since it's a label chosen by themes, it's up to themes to change it. You may want to head over to Slack - https://make.wordpress.org/chat/ - and pitch that idea in #themereview or http://make.wordpress.org/themes

They'd be the place to spearhead that change :)
