Category Editing

I run a political blog. I often find that I have commented on a topic a few times more than I would have expected, that it would be a good idea to take the older posts involving a certain topic, and give those posts their own category.

It would be nice to tell a plugin to take every instance of a particular in-post string... a proper name, let's say... Fred Thompson, for example... and place all posts containing that string, into one or more categories. (In this case, the cats, "Fred Thompson" "Republican", "Primary", and whatever.

Trouble is, there doesn't seem to be a tool to allow me to mass edit category attributions.
