Built-in Syndication Functionality

The ability to syndicate content from multiple blogs on your website easily, similar to the syndication you can do at Google Home (http://www.google.com/ig) or LiveJournal's Friends functionality.

Included would be the ability to either simply link to your favorite blogs' recent posts with a subject link (sorted by blog title, date, etc) or even short summaries of posts.

and maybe added functionality such as filter syndicate posts by tags/keywords and display the first 20/50/100 words. Although syndicate feeds on google/firefox et al are nice, for our own blogs we might want to limit the content coming in and displaying on our pages to just the content we want.

This feature can be useful for all those morons/thieves who would like to start their own WordPress, publish content from other blogs and earn with AdSense :/

I think PiotrMikolasjski makes a point that is rather irrelevant and closed-minded. Any person can program code to steal content from RSS feeds...a brilliant person can learn to make good use of the content on their web site though.

Let's not hinder good development by being paranoid. I think its a great idea and I already use an RSS Aggregator plugin for WP and it helps tremendously.

-1 Let's make it even easier for spammers and scrappers to do their dirty work. :(

I would be very much in favor of some kind of built-in aggregator, especially if it can be married with some variable security on WP posts. In a distributed network like WP the backend would have to look completely different from the LiveJournal "friends" model, of course, but it seems to me that LJ hit on something very important with that function. It's nice to have a single page that aggregates the recent posts from sites and blogs one follows, and it's especially nice to have some mechanism for defining people/sites/identities who get to view limited-viewership posts. I don't know whether OpenID would be sufficient for this, or if WP would need some identifying mechanism of its own--or perhaps both--but I think this would be a significant bit of added functionality.

I don't support this as it is stated. Firstly, it would encourage scraping sites.

Secondly, there are already plugins which perform something similar to this (displaying feeds to readers on your WP), and this proposal doesn't explain why this is needed in core.

Thirdly, there are already applications such as Gregarius (http://gregarius.net/) which perform this function for people who simply seek a way to read RSS feeds on their website.
