Approval for contributor edits of published pages/posts

    Hi,

I would like to suggest that WordPress have the ability to allow contributors to edit pages/posts they have created and had approved so that they can re-submit them for further approval. This would in effect create a draft version of a published page/post and once approved it would replace the current page/post.

    Cheers,

    Steve

What you're describing is almost "branching" a piece of content, which I'll admit is something I've wished for before. I don't know if it's core material though, might be better left to a workflow plugin.

Yeah I think a workflow plugin as you suggest might be a good compromise. Maybe this could be implemented in a canonical plugin (http://wordpress.org/development/2009/12/canonical-plugins/) as you would want any workflow to be integrated well with the core and be very stable.

It would be wonderful if there was also an option for an author/editor to create a draft revision of an existing page for approval by another user (editor).

Our group prefers to have a second person check any site changes before we make them available to the public, but there is no option to do that with existing pages.
