AdoDB support

  1. Idle

Rewrite the DB access methods for AdoDB. That way you get a safe backend and support for a good range of database servers.

adodb is ugly. and poorly structured. and outputs html in strange places. and it's ugly. not a very good idea. a database abstraction layer would be nice, though.

This is a major problem for WordPress users who have posts dated before 1901 (and this affects more people tan you might think).
Adodb is so simple that it can be easily implemented and would save many users from making hacks to core code.
I've had zero problems (over 8 months of use) with the adodb solution, but if a "database abstraction layer" (whatever that is) is better/easier, then let's have that instead.

Probably will never happened based on this point within the Using Alternative Database article in the Codex.

Current standard database abstraction layers (ADOdb, Pear DB) are very large and complex, they would represent dependencies as large as or larger than wordpress itself. This could reduce WordPress' portability and ease of installation.
