Add subtitle

Add another field underneath the Title field that allows for another title to be added.

    For example:

    Title: _________________
    Subtitle: ______________

This could be used for newspapers or other blogs that use WP to include the article name as well as a subheading without taking up posting space.

    Such as:

    Title: Duke wins NCAA championship
Subtitle: Last minute free throw saves game

Yeah, that would be a lot easier than the way I hacked it.

I think this is something more for a Plugin to do, not the WP Core.

The excerpt is for functions like the search feature. Should you type something in to the search field, the related posts would appear as chosen excerpts on the results page.

Exactly, and if you use The Excerpt (as I am) and set up search.php to use excerpts, then you get a one-liner about the post. The alternative is the full-meal-deal, or a plugin to fix the fix. :o\ It would be easier to just add another field. It would certainly make news blogs a lot easier to build and maintain.

I do subtitles via the custom fields option; I use it a lot! However, there should be easier to retrieve that info using core code; I use a plugin ("Get Custom Field Values" plugin) for doing that at the time. Not that it's a pain or anything. Works fine as is; I think..

Is there any way to add a plugin-custom-field like a subtitle-field directly beneath the title field? I think the first custom field added by a plugin goes under the post-content-field, and that's not where I'd like it to appear... Any ideas?
