Add folder management in Media Library

I like the Plugin "Enhanced Media Library"

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/enhanced-media-library/

It does not really create "folders" but you can assign files to one or multiple categories and also filter files by MIME-Types (like images, pdf, audio, video ...)

What I really would like to see in WordPress as a default function is the option to replace existing files.

    Like this plugin does: https://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/enable-media-replace

I have had to encounter this exact issue several times before. I would like to suggest to consider this idea to provide a possible way to categorize media elements, for ease of maintaining & managing media elements. I think WP would be beneficial with a folder management system with the media library to help organise files in the library.

As others have mentioned, WP is a CMS, being able to organize data based on tags and other meta-data should be the easy part. I realize the idea is about "folders", but a "folder", doesn't have to be on disk, and could just be some extra meta-data with the default access to content through the paths the images are accessed now. Even a "moderate" sized site, with thousands of images, using say Woo Commerce, is difficult to manage in WordPress from the POV of the media library.

This feature is long overdue - really!

One of the sites, that I'm administrating has around 50 content pages - but the media folder size went up to 3 Gig within weeks.

The ability to structure this media data, yes - in folders - would be more than helpful.

    Pleeeease, implement this feature!

I think it may be a better idea to add taxonomies to media.

I dont know, as long as you name your media files properly, the search function never disappointed me. That's why i never missed an organized structure like folder.
On the other hand, folders obviously wouldnt hurt anyone. ;)

I think WordPress should improve this function to help users have a better experience. When user has a good community experience, wordpress user will not stop growing

I agree, some way to organize the media library using folders would be a really nice feature (although I also understand how this could be something better left to plugins).

The real media library plugin that was mentioned earlier looks nice. I haven't tried Enhanced Media Library yet but that one looks like it could be useful too. I was a little confused by the screenshots though; I guess I'll have to play around with it.

This is another one I stumbled across while searching for media library folders. Also looks really nice and I like how clean it is.
