WP-United integrates phpBB and WordPress to make a social site. Enable any of these modules: sign-on, theming, widgets, cross-posting and behaviour.
I don't normally leave reviews for WP plugins but felt compelled to here. I've been through the mill in terms of manual WP and PHPBB integrations over the past few years. Decided to try this plugin tonight on a new install to see how it would work. Have to say that it was completely seamless and a joy to install. As I said, I've been playing with this area for a few years, initially back when Joomla was popular. (I don't miss those days!)
There are lots of features to play around with and a large collection of ready built widgets. Some additional tweaking of the widgets wouldn't go amiss but hopefully this will come with future updates.
This should be a premium plugin because of the complexity -versus- ease of use balance achieved.
Anyone that votes less than a 4 for this great plugin has no idea of working with WP or has been smoking strange stuff.
I have been working with a lot of forums, such as bbpress, Simple:press, mingke, and others. But none of them had the functionality of phpBB. To install phpBB itself, you should indeed have some knowledge, but it is not that hard after all if you follow instructions.
But that is about phpBB.
The integration with WP is an other story, and this is why wp-united is so good: it's easy to install & use, it works perfect and I got GREAT support.
Anyone looking for a good forum should use phpBB and WP-united!
Installation for this plugin was extremely easy and quick. I had no problems configuring the necessarily settings to make the plugin work properly.
The user interface is extremely intuitive and easy to navigate, making this plugin extremely easy to use. It's highly customizable and has a ton of available widgets for use in WP, adding polls, recent topics and user birthdays or stats to your WP page.
Just few minutes ago i have integrated phpbb3 v3.0.11 and WordPress 3.5.1 so easly.
Everything had gone perfectly. Actually to tell the truth i was surprised in all steps. Because its like both software is produced by this team :D.
Thanks for the plugin and hard working!..
If you use phpBB and WordPress combination, WP-United is the way to go. I had tried this plugin in its early stages and it had several issues, and at that time I went with another plugin that was available.
However with my site re-design, I re-assessed current status of all possible options and was surprised to find WP-United in such a good shape. Easy to say, it works flawlessly.
And it has several very useful features which came in handy: Theme integration and User mapping (auto and manual). Plus if Theme integration does not work out of the box, there are several options, e.g. adjusting integration level (off / medium / max; medium worked for me). And there is always possibility to add some manual tweaks to CSS (reset.css) to ensure the finest look.
Thanks for this plugin and keeping up the good work/support!
tnx . this 5* is only for this plugin's great and fast customer support.
If I could rat twice , I would Rate a 4 Star for the plugin its self !
Need widget integration to phpBB, and this plugin do more. Easy setup (in wordpress and phpbb with automod).
with great support from author
I tested this plugin since there were beta-releases. It nearly worked perfectly at that time. But now, on my live pages with the released versions, everything runs fine for me.
If there were any questions I got support at the plugin's forum, could help translate and give some thoughts on what could (be) change(d) to make this plugin even better.
To sum it up: If you are using WordPress and looking to integrate a free forum software - give phpBB a try and use this plugin. It's easy to install by using AutoMod in phpBB and Plugin-Install in WordPress. 2 more clicks and it's done.
The guy behind this plugin really knows what he is doing and he is really helpful. It would be a mistake to pass this one up!
