So, this was a common practice and whatdya know? 3.5 snatched the feature right out from under us! So… started googling and found "edit the config" and "edit the functions" - man! THIS made my day (and saved a ton of time). Thank you!

It took me less than 30 secs to open my media from a new subdomain

This is really helpful since wordpress 3.5.1 hides the new path. I also didn't want to mess up with the code rather than using this handy plugin. I somehow took some more time just to figure out the exact path to for my new sub-domain, but that's a different story all together.

I really recommend this plugin.

WP dropped the interface support for this feature and this plugin just puts it right back there.
Saved me a lot of digging as I only managed to find references to how to change the wp_upload_dir but no way to change the global url.
