This plugin removes the mandatory 'Category Base' from your category permalinks (e.g. `/category/my-category/` to `/my-category/`).
I was a little wary since this hadn't been updated in a while, but I see now that it hasn't had to be; it does what it does and it does it well. Thanks!
It effectively removes the "category/" part of the category url.
As others have said, this plugin does what it says when installed.
However after uninstalling it caused 404s on all of my pages (despite the fact that it is posts that are affected when it is installed).
The solution is to re-install WordPress via the Dashboard Updates section. Doing this fixed all the 404s for me.
Thanks you very much. It good for me!
Works as advertised.
Good plugin - does what it says - removes /category/ from URLs.
Previously I was using a plugin called Pathless Category Links but it didn't handle feed links and hasn't been updated in a while.
Installation was painless and I didn't have to fight any rewriting bears so that was pleasant!
Well, it actually worked. However, I noticed that I had a page that used the same slug as one of the parent categories, which kept the page from showing. When I realized that this plugin wasn't for me, I tried deactivating it assuming that it would all go back to normal, but it didn't. It caused no effect. It was after I tried uninstalling it that I realized that all my pages were showing up 404 errors, and adding "-2" to my page slugs, and weird stuff that, up until now, I haven't been able to solve (not even reinstalling wordpress would work).
