Support is non-existent. Product is buggy. I tried enabling shipping with UPS, FEDEX and USPS-- all calculations were wrong. I even wasted the bucks on Gold Cart, which entitles you to one support ticket. I made a ticket asking for help with customization, and they told me that wasn't included. Ticket wasted.

Doesn't work
By , for WP 3.6.1

This plugin works - sort of. Upgraded to latest version. Among the things that did not work out of the box and needed repair:

  • Shipping calculator did not work. I could only get it to work sort of
  • Disregard shipping for this product doesn't work for single products and only sort of works for products with variations.
  • Variations will not update

If you don't need any of these, then wait until next upgrade when something else will not work.

Save yourself some heartache and headaches and avoid this plugin.

poor documentation

It does seem to offer a lot of functionality but a common complaint is poor documentation. Not liking :(

Works with a lot of coding and debugging.

Justin Sainton, it really is great that you and others work so hard to make Open-source software available and I appreciate this. The thing is the developers of this plugin should really take note of the stars and reviews. Labelling them (gonna hate) is neither fair nor productive, Instinct are receiving these reviews for a reason and these will result in the platforms success or failure, no matter what you name them. I think most WordPress users are aware of the need for continued development of software platforms and the support that goes along with it but the Instinct system seems disjointed and not user friendly.

I have used WP e-commerce for a long time and have paid for the Gold Cart plugin that extends it's use. With the continued release of updates to the core, that are frequently buggy, I often just have a simple question that could be answered by a developer in one sentence. Paying $47 dollars each time seems well over the odds. I understand that answering over 2 million users for gratis is not feasible. Maybe a tier system that could separate the level of assistance required would be a solution. Perhaps making each release a lot more stable would also be an option. I know this would mean longer development times and this might mean making the core files purchasable.

WP E-commerce will always be compared to Woocommerce as they are the nearest competitor. At the moment they are considered by many to be the superior. I for one agree, having used both, I hope that Instinct can rectify these problems before it makes a serious impact on the platforms usage.

No Support and buggy
By , for WP 3.6.1

I've been using this plug in for years. I was really happy with it when it first started using it.

At least you could search their forum to find answers from other people. Now, they've moved all free support to the WP site, so when you try to search, you search EVERY forum post.

It's buggy. It's always been buggy. I could usually figure it out, but I'll never use this plug in again, as soon as I can figure out a way to export and import all of the products into WooCommerce.

I'm really hating on this plug in.

The worst support ever
By , for WP 3.6

A complex plugin like this needs sufficient support. This is clearly not the case with WPeC. A great potential completely wasted. Unless you are a developer yourself, I'd stay far far away from this rather shoddy platform. Nobody ever gets back to you unless you pay for premium support. The community is regularly fuming. There's no passion to deliver something that really works.

It's better to charge for a plugin and give free support, then to make it free and leave people with a half hearted product and zero help. I can only hope that somebody with the ambition to deliver a good product will take over soon.

It works, but...

Sure, WPEC works, and well from what I can see, but dealing with it is irksome. It lacks a certain intuitiveness and to me the fact that you have to pay $47 bucks for the presentation options in Gold Cart, though they throw in some payment gateways as well, just seems weak.

On the topic of Payment options, WPEC does not offer a PCI compliant Payment Gateway, unless you count PayPal Standard. Their Mijireh plugin costs $69 bucks for what is a "Free" Service (Mijireh takes a cut of your sale as payment). WooCommerce packages both PayPal Standard AND Mijireh in it's plugin.

There are just to many little annoyances in WPEC that seem to not be an issue with WooCommerce, not to say WooCommerce is perfect. However, it does seem that WPEC users are very much left to their own devices for things that would not be an issue in a more polished plugin.

It seems that if you're a coder, WPEC may be for you. If you like getting down with PHP, CSS, and whatever else go for it. I'm sure you will find a way to work out the kinks. If you want something that works and is more polished, look elsewhere.
