Move or copy a WordPress site to another server or to another domain name, move to/from local server hosting, and backup sites.
Worked for me in the past, but now it gives errors when trying to complete the migration on the new site.
I used this plugin before and it worked, (once it didn't, when going from 1 hosting provider to another)
But now using it on a brand new site using WP 3.9.1 it failed on me.
I usually get 3-20 of these warnings
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /home/localbiz/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-clone-by-wp-academy/lib/functions.php on line 436
but these are normal and don't seem to affect anything.
But on WP 3.9.1 i get this warning:
Warning: filesize() [function.filesize]: stat failed for /home/localbiz/public_html/wp-content/uploads/wp-clone/wpclone_backup_17th_May_2014_09-30PM_Loc_LK2RA3usFd.zip in /home/localbiz/public_html/wp-content/plugins/wp-clone-by-wp-academy/lib/functions.php on line 166
I'm pretty sure this error message pops up because the backup was not successful even though it says it was.
For the file size it doesn't show anything, if i click on it i get a page not found error.
If i right click and hit Save As it downloads a 9.5KB sized file.
Trying to restore this to a different domain (same hosting company) i get a "Not Found" error.
Double clicking on the saved file also results in "Error in packed file"
I just tried opening an older backup of a site running older WP, that backup is ~18.5MB and i can access it. (open it/unpack it)
This older site has all of the plugins and more that i used on this new site, except WP 3.9.1, i think it was using WP 3.8.3
I will change my rating once it starts working again.
I was trying to use this plugin to make a copy of a default half way set up instance of wordpress, since i have to do the same thing on 3 different domains.
On the first one it failed, this had every change made and plugins installed.
On the 2nd site, there was nothing set up/installed, except this plugin of course and on this the backup worked and i only got 1 of those errors.
After some trial and error i found out that the problem is being caused by Jetpack. Just simply installing it, without even activating it is breaking this plugin.
Now i don't necessarily need this plugin backed up for this simple site multiplication thing, but for a proper backup i really do, so i gave it 2 stars instead of just 1.
In April 2014, I used this plugin to migrate a site from a production to locally hosted server, and had reasonable success. At the time, I gave the plugin 4 stars. Recent experience using the plugin to move a locally hosted site to a production server was a long, frustrating, time-consuming experience. Copying & pasting the url in the plugin on the production side continually threw an error message 'Incompatible archive'. Since this type of error has been around a while, it surprises me the plugin authors haven't seen fit to address it properly. When I was able to restore my site on the production server, much of the site's written content was missing. I had to upload my db backup from my localhost and overwrite the production server db tables to get the rest of the content up and running. My difficulties may be confined to my hosting service (GoDaddy). I will try using the WPC again with a different hosting service, and see if I get a better result. At this time, I'm open to trying a different plugin to help move site files and databases.
