Import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, tags and more from a WordPress export file.
1. Export from existing WP site (yes, dear internets, "Export All")
2. Import to new site, with download and import media option
3. Notice that all of your "Media has falied to import" and the Media Library is completely empty
4. Repeat several times from step 1
n. Eventually, give up. Manually re-upload and re-link images on 200+ posts. Sad lack of support for this tool. Migrations Happen.
Importing is still impossible. And to add insult to injury, it is impossible to import into WP what has been exported from WP. I am capable of reading the manual and following instructions.
after I upload the .xml file and hit the button, it just show blank ~
I have wasted so much time with this substandard importer. Even when I click the "import images into media library" option, it just links to the old site images. No featured images with the new posts either. PRetty much had to rebuild the site from the base up every time I've used this. Almost useless
This plugin has never imported images or attachments correctly (if at all). I've been using the patched version inimarin posted here for over a year now. Amazed that they still haven't implemented his fix. Or offered one of their own! Mind boggling...
Here's a direct link to inimarin's working version, as well as the link to his original post.
Wow you guys need to do some work on this plugin. Move your website should be this hard.
This plugin is actually misguide users. If I move the hosting than it should export all my current data including images and also all settings (all options) so it should setup all things on import.
But currently it's exporting only content of post types only.
What I expect is that the export and import process will actually clone my existing site to new site.
Imported only few images: no posts no categories no other media.
This plugin clearly has not been deisgned to be timeout tolerant.
Therefore, if you have bought a theme from themeforest.net or the like, and want to import sample content, most of the times it won't terminate importing items due to timeout.
Then you have the double trouble of cleaning up and solving the timeout problem.
Being this a crucial plugin, this plugin should be extended with a timeout-tolerant logic.
I have used this thing dozens and dozens of times, each time thinking it would be easier than a MYSQL import. I am almost always wrong.
Image import fails far too much. Often it will show failed imports and they are actually imported. And if the xml is large, count on it failing.
As stated by others, this is a simple function and should actually be core.
Meh, I guess I should make my own and quit crying about the issues with this thing.
