Import posts, pages, comments, custom fields, categories, tags and more from a WordPress export file.
While the WP team has been hard at improving many aspects of WordPress this is one aspect that has been severely neglected! For months the WordPress Importer has not functioned correctly. Tons of unresolved tickets in the support forums with common problems like media not being imported correctly.
Does exactly what it says on the tin
I use it import sample data - never had any problems. Thanks!
When you import blogs from an XML file exported from another website, "post->guid" of posts remain unchanged, they should be the new permalinks of the posts.
I had to re-create new permalink in my template file to deal with this bug.
Perfect for what it does but hopefully a new addition will become complete by exporting the database as well.
It worked fine for me but not without a couple of stumbles, which I suspect are server related rather than any issue with the plugin itself.
It took me a few tries to move everything. On the first attempt it only imported tags a some images, but no posts, pages or comments (and no error messages). I ran the import maybe 6 times in total and each successive run imported more each time until eventually everything was imported. So if you have this issue, just be patient. Everything will import eventually.
Given the plugin cost $0, I have no complaints!
I see some people had some problem with it, but it was ok for me, so 5 stars.
Despite having my own CSV importer plugins CSV 2 POST and Easy CSV Importer. I decided to give this a try and make sure there was nothing I was missing in terms of the functions being used.
I didn't used a huge file like most importers can handle and this plugin ended up on white screen. Nothing in the code to make use of really, it is a simple solution.
It is meant to be though. There are plenty other importers that try to tackle some of the fundamental issues when working with data. It's never simple not even for premium plugins or their users :)
After all these years of WordPress development I can't believe they still haven't provided a fool-proof way of importing blogs. After using this and failing to import my blog (some of the database entries are there but it's very muddled) I searched the user forum and it is full of closed, unsolved threads from users unable to import their blog.
I just feel WordPress is burying its head in the sand on this one. Disappointing, considering everything else about WordPress is great.
Sucks. Didn't import media even if I selected the option to import all attachments. What now? Should I upload my hundreds of images one by one?
