Keep your valuable WordPress website, its media and database backed up to Dropbox in minutes with this sleek, easy to use plugin.
This plugin is a must-have if you want to backup your website to a Dropbox account. Before using this plugin, I backup my sites manually weekly and that takes a lot of time.
Now, I can relax and have the backed up version of my site in my local computer since I have my PC and Dropbox account synced.
Awesome plugin, no more worrying about backups and hosting issues.
The plugin installs and configures nicely.
Exclusion selection was good.
Setup with dropbox was clean and neat.
When you run immmediately it from the monitor pages,
it says backup started and then gives no feedback at all.
Returning to the page it appears that
nothing has been/ is running.
I have a backup set to run shortly.
I'm also wondering if I can restore elsewhere,
but this is not covered.
I like the fact that I can easily exclude cache and other folders that don't need to be backed up. Also, it doesn't require MySQLi extension in PHP to work.
Looks easy enough that I can get my clients to do their own backups.
Now it just needs to add an "ad-hoc" Backup button for the DashBoard instead of forcing scheduled backups and it would be rather perfect.
(Another good feature would be to create a LOCAL backup onto a folder on the web server itself, just in case anything goes wrong with a version update of WP or plug-ins. No need to copy it all over the net into DropBox. Ideally tie it to the "Update" feature so that backups are taken automatically)
The communication problems with support gone a month ago, and now I must to say this plugin is only one which is really works, not overwhelmed with settings and uploads my 1.5 GB site as fast as possible. I not joking, 1.5 GB with all materials (I have 72 GB Dropbox space). The only one thing now looks problematic, site ls less responsive while ZIP-ped backup upload process not finished. If you not use ZIP, the site will not show any slow-downs. And, if someone decided to purchase, please not forget the software registered to domain name. In case you develop site locally and not in fully-isolated sandbox with real domain names and fake DNS to this sandbox, software will be registered to your site-dev.company-dev.com or something address and refused to work after moving to real domain.
Very simple plugin but useful !!
We have prepared a free Tutorial for WordPress Backup to Dropbox.
Includes video in spanish.
No UTF-8 filenames support - useless for me, and quite lame, in fact. On first run backed up less than a half of all files. Unreliable, uninstalled.
I use this plugin to duplicate / copy my wordpress install to localhost. Love the SQL dump it creates. When I like to be up to speed with the latest on the live site, I simply hook into the dropbox folder and locally I'm up and running with another fresh clone within minutes.
Currently installing on all the blogs/websites I am admin for! Looks a lot better than half the paid backup programs and feel safe knowing the backup is there on my desktop, not just floating around in digital space somewhere! Would be grey if you could specify it to create a new folder on each backup though and cycle through through each week! Don't always realise there's been a problem until its been there a couple of days in which case it's too late to restore as the problem has been backed up over the correct backup (if that makes sense)
