Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security plugin that includes a firewall, virus scanning, real-time traffic with geolocation and more.
really really so good :)
This is an awesome plugin. It is simple to use and alerts me of any changes or problems by email. I love it.
This plugin started well, has remained stable and effective, and continues to be improved. The recently added feature of live, distributed protection against brute-force attacks is just plain wonderful. It has proved highly effective in protecting my sites against the surges in opportunistic WP botnet attacks in recent months.
The other features are all great too. I highly appreciate the level of control and customization allowed in the settings.
Overall, I highly recommend this plugin. In fact, given all the security threats nowadays, I wouldn't want to self-host without it.
PS: A tip regarding speed that I picked up from the developer and that has rung true in my experience: regarding loading speed/optimization of your site, running WordFence should not make a noticeable impact if you disable the live traffic view feature.
Great options and email alerts - very tempted to buy the full version it's so good!!
I have the free version, getting the paid version. Man this really helped me find a hackers code that was embedded in our site today. Way too cool. Thank you.
Amazing tool ... it's saved my WP site from a few distributed attacks. So grateful, thanks very much!!!
Incredible real-time features let you know what's currently happening in your WP site
Amazing free features, please keep them free for us who don;t need all that fancy upgrade :) Thanks a bunch!
If you're using the free or paid version of Wordfence you have the option to "Participate in the real-time Wordfence security network" under 'Other options' enabled. This will immediately block any attack originating from an IP address that has attacked other WordPress sites using Wordfence. This is an effective defense against this kind of attack.
What a great program; intuitive, reliable, and very affordable!
Couldn't be easier to set up. I'd recommend limiting the number of email notifications per hour when configuring it, because this stops pretty much everything, and it's going to let you know about it. I once received more than 100 emails in an hour due to a brute-force attack. That's about 99 too many.
And be sure to add your IP address to the whitelist in the options to avoid locking yourself out or being throttled. Most importantly, this adds essential security to your site and anyone can use it.
