Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security and performance plugin that makes your site up to 50 times faster and more secure.
Lots of options but easy to configure. Wordfence recently help me detect and stop a brute force attack on my site. They really keep up on WordPress vulnerability and update often to protect you, even when plugin authors don't.
A small issue on shared servers: pay attention to your memory usage, especially if you run multiple sites. On one host I had to turn live traffic off and set the memory limit Wordfence down to 30 megs.
I've been very pleased with wordfence. It does the job that would require multiple plugins to perform. Security, Antivirus, Spam control, Firewall...the list goes on.
I like the ease of installing, most defaults preset, easy instructions on the website for other settings. I had it working in an hour and felt more secure right away. I do like the notifications when action is taken.
Has blocked numerous hacker attempts. Regular Email updates are excellent too. Pretty easy to use.
Found this plugin post-hack and wish I'd found it sooner.
It's comprehensive yet easy to understand and certainly helped me get my sites back up working again after they were hacked - and will now hopefully help me keep them clean.
A thoroughly deserved 5* and a big thank you to the developers.
Just would like to give these guys a 5 star rating. This is an awesome service they are providing for WP bloggers
More than just a login security plugin, this plugin scans for and patches vulnerabilities automatically. Falcon Engine also boosted the performance of my sites significantly. Great notification options providing peace of mind.
In July 2014 it was brought to my attention that my site had been hacked. In getting everything cleaned up and working again Wordfence plugin was recommended. I installed it and for the past few months everything seemed great. It amazed me to see how many times a day bots tried to hack my site using invalid user names!
Yesterday I received an email from Wordfence that critical files in my WP site(s) had been changed. As I investigated, sure enough some kind of code was inserted in several WP files. I believe this is due to having Optimize Press theme on my sites and a recently discovered vulnerability with XML-RPC. I have disabled this with a recommended Plugin.
Thank you Wordfence for allowing me to catch and fix this issue!
rolled back my site so I could get back in
I was surprised how comprehensive the free version was. This is really a public service.
This plugin is excellent. It allows for lots of customisation to suit your own security preferences and is very easy to use. I love the email alerts if someone tries to repeatedly log in unsuccessfully or if malicious code changes core files. It is invaluable.
I love the fact that this plugin works brilliantly for free and the developers don't "hold you to ransom" to get the paid version by crippling the plugin.
Once my site is up and running I will be signing up for the premium version, if nothing else, to contribute something back for all the effort that has been put into this.
