Wordfence Security is a free enterprise class security and performance plugin that makes your site up to 50 times faster and more secure.
This should be an essential plugin for each and every website. I'm very happy with this plugin and installed it all my wordpress websites.
I used the free version while I was doing a local set up of my site on WAMP on my desktop. I walked through the basics and it looked like a solid straight forward security application.
I'm very excited and impressed about dual form authenticity and the Cache system. I watched the video on their website and it seems to work really well. I'm just hoping that since Bluehost tries so hard to be the end-all be all hosting company of people using WP as a WCM tool that I can use the fastest settings of the cache on BH.
Mark is quick to communicate even if it's something simple that doesn't really have anything to do wit the product but it's a general industry question.
I think what I spent for 1 year of service and the extra features of pro is well worth it.
Excellent tool against b....y b......s!
Fixed 3 sites on my server that were hacked, and has blocked dozens of other attempts at unauthorized logins.
Before setting up my first WordPress site I spent a lot of time reading and trying several security plugins until I found Wordfence. The Plugin has a lot of documentation and with a bit of time and good will even a non pro like me is able to set it up and benefit from it. And most of all really protects your site: it is a must have!
I have just seen that more that more than 22,000 brute force attacks occurred, originating from one IP on one of my sites over a period of six hours, all blocked effectively by Wordfence. This stopped about two hours ago and another started from a different IP, which has already numbered more than 16,000 blocked hits, thanks to Wordfence.
This plugin is amazing. After being hacked for several times (although with strong psw and updated plugins), I installed Wordfence and it has saved my site ever since. Amazing. Settings can be a bit overwhelming but they all make sense. Thanks for the Author!
I tried several security plugins in the past until I found Wordfence. This plugin has it ALL! If I new it from the beginning I would have saved a lot of time. I wish there was a 6th start in the rating system! ^^
I have at various points tried a number of the security plugins, due to the rampant efforts of malcontents to break into even the most mundane of wordpress sites. The plugins I have tried all basically work, but this one seems to be much more robust in its scans and being proactive. I will likely go to premium version, but . . . it is still painful to manually add IPs to the blacklist. The other plugin I used (IP Blacklist) - that was one click. Here, I have to copy and paste the IP (unless I am missing something). And I notice that when I go premium, I can block countries, but the vast majority of the IPs I am seeing trying to break in, are from "unknown location" so I do not think that is going to reduce the need to manually block IPs. I also get that throttling them will probably get them to move on to other targets, so what I am doing is probably overkill . . . but some of these hackers have tried various things that make me think they have a bit more interest in getting in.
Anyway, the plugin works well for me.
I was amazed that any small changes in my code were verified by the plugin
