WooCommerce is a powerful, extendable eCommerce plugin that helps you sell anything. Beautifully.
Be careful to use Woocommerce, especially in some European countries like Italy or Germany.
WooCommerce does not provide the required fields regarding VAT and Tax Code.
But more seriously does not provide for the sale of products with special VAT rates. Or rather, you can set a fee for each different product, but absolutely inconsistent with other expenses, such as shipping, packing and so on. These charges are flat rate, NOT special.
Solutions? Hire a programmer and assure that the costs are very high. Not to mention that every update is necessary to review the changes.
I am a WooThemes customer, and I had the woocommerce shopping cart installed. It worked for over a year, I updated it, it worked correctly for exactly ONE order once updated and then no longer worked. I had no idea it was the shopping cart because of that - but apparently someone at woo themes did because although it took weeks to get an update - an update was done and the issue was fixed.
I contacted Woo Themes support as soon as I realized there was a problem -- got several replies from them, all telling me stuff I already did and knew and then one asking for my password to check it out, which in less than 5 minutes I replied with my password.
Well 10 days later ---- a different support person decided to write me, saying thanks, it looks like it is fixed! After I already saw there was an update to to Woocommerce shopping cart 7 days prior and fixed it.
I was literally out of business for nearly 3 weeks.
I know woocommerce is a free shopping cart, but I have purchased several Woo Themes and to just not be replied to AT ALL and then have someone reply to me a week after I find the update myself and countless hours of stress involved... Well I will just say this --- I am building a second website, and others after that - and will very likely not be using Woo Themes because of this whole incident.
Seriously disappointed customer here.
For a developer, WooCommerce is brilliant. It's truly open and clearly designed for extensibility. The code is very well written and liberally commented and, best of all, there are hooks for everything. This means modifying behavior via my own plugin or theme functions rather than editing Woocommerce source, allowing the mods survive Woocommerce updates.
The paid-for extensions are great, but a tad pricey if you need a bunch! It would be great if Woothemes offered 'Club', 'Combo' or 'Bundle' options.
I will be brief. I only use WooCommerce for many reasons. When I say only I mean only. I turn down clients who do not take my suggestion to use WooCommerce as there online shopping cart solution. I also buy the extensions often (VERY WORTH THE PRICE EVEN THE EXTENDED LICENSE). I am a full theme club member (AGAIN VERY WORTH THE PRICE). Thank you to everyone from the WooThemes team. You all make me happy to be part of the website development world!!!
So I thought since on of the recent updates says it addressed attributes I'd give this another try.
Brand new test site with the default WP theme and no plugins.
Still no way to add prices to attributes or even a way to get customers to choose an attribute on the product page. It only displays them in the "additional info" tab.
Works in WP 3.5.1 though, last i checked.
And of course, no support except for here. I'm not sure whether to praise or chastise the people here for supporting this for profit companies product. I sure admire their willingness to help others, but They are also letting this for profit company off the hook. They should be supporting their products.
After being stuck at first base on something quite simple, it's now looking much more promising.
Once you get the hang of how you are supposed to do things, it is quite logical and easy to use.
There are things I will need to do which at the moment are not immediately visible - this may mean getting the purchased version. If this is the case, then it should become a very useful plugin.
I have been able to fit it into my theme and change CSS elements so that the e-commerce pages styling is consistent.
As above I think there should be clearer documentation on some simple processes. Will report back when i've gone further.
Excellent program, plenty of supporting plugins, excellent support forum on the WP page (only available on the WooCommerce main page if you purchase something).
Note: Shop emails are sent via the wp-mail system, so if you have a validated @domain.com email address then make sure you also install the wp-smtp plugin so your shop emails don't get bounced/labelled as spam. ;)
OK, so they don't offer support if all you do is use the free base plugin. Fair enough - that's their call, they're a business at the end of the day and have to make money.
However, I paid for 3 (rather expensive IMHO) plugins which, apparently, does entitle me to support on the base system.
It's been 5 days now and the support ticket hasn't even been assigned to a support agent!
Read in to that what you will.
WooCommerce is, btw, is an excellent system. However, if you're not too technical or are worried about using an unsupported plugin, then I'd strongly advise looking elsewhere.
Best plugin for e-commerce sites.
this company feels that they can make a product free, just so they dont have to support it.. i tried to ask a question, which i later realized being a programmer is a bug in their plugin, but they didnt want to hear anything i had to say since i have not paid them anything... which i would have, except for the fact the only way to give them money is to buy a different plugin, which i didnt need... they have no paid support for free products... thats just lame... especially when its the core of their system... so they get one star.. cause i cant give any less.. just like they did...
