The complete and reliable plugin for managing custom post types, custom taxonomy and custom fields.
I'm using this with the the $149 Toolset which includes paid support. The team listens to users and updates are timely. It has enhanced my WordPress sites considerably.
I have 14 custom post types.
And after using P3 profiler i have found that Types plugin takes 11 seconds to display a page.
I know i can use a cache plugin to fix this issue, but is this normal? 11 seconds? It takes 2-3 seconds without the types plugin.
Please let me know.
It solved within hours what it was going to take days on other CMSs - even if WP is not a CMS: it should be included in the core.
Amazingly intuitive and reliable.
Releases are timely, precise and frequent enough.
Fantastic and fast non-paid tech support (by an extremely cute support girl - a nice plus! ;)
Maybe the documentation for the Types lacks a bit.
As a programmer I can't believe what took me so long to start creating my own custom post types. This plugin is excellent on it's own, they offer not only a paid plugin for views (displaying custom content) but excellent documentation so you can create the views yourself if you know how. In addition, SUPPORT! what more can you ask for? THANKS!!!!
This plugin makes WordPress the best CMS in the world. Good work peeps
After trying 20 plugins, TYPES is the best !
We wanted checkboxes and it does the job very well.
Thank you ! I will donate asap.
This plugin is a must. Save many hours of hard work!
Types 1.2 works great for me
Best plugin of its type.
Types lets you easily create custom post types, taxonomies and fields from within the admin screen. So that's very cool. Unfortunately it is not a very polished tool to work with.
For instance, you cannot (re)order your custom field groups. Meaning that if you add a few CFG's to your page, you will have to start with the last and end with the first. That is if you do not want to make the backend of your client's website more user unfriendly than it already is.
What is lacking in Types is an easy way to make repeating field groups. While you can repeat fields, you cannot repeat field groups. Other plugins do give you repeater fields.
What is also lacking is clear instruction on how to display your custom fields or custom post types on your page. This should't be too difficult for a seasoned developer but the people behind Types are not going to be of much help in this area. They say that you will "probably" need to edit your index.php file and that, since "different themes do it differently" they can't really say what works best.
A simple example and some info on how Types writes its fields to the database (it prepends your custom fields with wpfc-) would have been helpful.
What Types really tries do is letting you buy Views. Plus some other plugins you'll most likely do not need. Even "Ninja Developers" should buy Views, since you "wouldn't want to do the same stuff over and over again." In reality, when you use Types (and Views) you will be doing the same stuff over and over again. Unlike other similar plugins that let you duplicate field groups and then edit them, with types (and Views) you will find yourself redoing the same stuff.
The whole process of creating, organising, connecting and displaying CPT's, custom boxes and taxonomies with Types (and Views) is cumbersome, slow and not very intuitive. The user guides on the website are confusing. (as said by others)
The support is good though: There is free community support were questions are answered by staff members. If you buy the $149 Toolset you get "paid" support which is supposed to be better.
What is also positive is the 30 day money back guarantee. After registering with their site I was able to download the Toolset with Types, Views, Access and CRED for free. (must have been a glitch). But would I have paid money for the Views plugin plus the rest I would have certainly asked for a refund since I am not going to use it.
Last but not least: Types clutters your dashboard with ugly colored icons (where the rest is monochrome and more in line with the WP design) and huge "information boxes" that advertise their other products. In order to get rid of this annoying messages you'll need to install their "installer plugin". Why not put this in screen options?
