Safely test drive any theme as an administrator, while visitors use the default one.
I've used this plugin in the past which been a great help to me.
I'm sad to see that it's not updated anymore and does not seem to work at all with newer versions of WordPress.
Thanks for as long it lasted!
Definitely works for previewing pages of your site under different themes by specifying the URL _GET parameter '?theme=themename'.
Make sure that the 'themename' matches the folder name of '/wp-content/themes/themename'
So if you want to preview your site with the Twenty Twelve theme, the appropriate URL would be:
http: // yoursite.com/?theme=twentytwelve
Initially, it DID work for me. Only I could see any changes to the site. I had my site open on another computer next to me, constantly checking to see if any changes made their way across from my possible new theme to my current theme. And they did. When I made some minor changes in the WordPress theme customizer, the background colour of my current theme was changed to that of the theme I was testing. I then spent a few frantic minuets trying to correct the problem, as my nice blue-white gradient had been replaced with a cream-grey that clashed horribly.
In other words, I could not install, tweak and test plugins without breaking the visitor experience, as advertised. Hence, 1 star.
great work. this makes theme development much easier! widgets are not working in preview but thats a negligible problem. its a real relief to be able to test a complete site with a new theme.
ok, after a week of testing and tweaking my new theme with the help of this fantastic plug-in, I have just switched my production site over. what an amazingly simple transition... many thanks.
Was a great idea to preview the theme, but when I wanted to update the menu or widgets it broke the entire live theme, not working as suggested by author that you can modify theme settings..
This plugin is super handy for development of new themes.
The overall concept is great. However, there a few bugs that have been driving me mad. When you enable the plug-in and select the theme, the menus on the other themes are reset. This seems to happen no matter what other plug-ins I have activated.
