I absolutely adore this plugin....however.....in that I have to FTP my updates to ALL my websites, the ridiculous number and frequency with which they continue to roll out updates is quickly making this my least favorite.
The changes are minor and while I know I don't have to update, I can't stand seeing that red (1) staring at me each morning. But these almost daily updates are driving me insane!
Unfortunately, I've started looking for an alternative plugin.
Done everything in seconds. No more boring settings, no more creepy short codes.
After jumping through the hoops of disconnecting all plugins and changing to a stock wordpress theme it has been proved that this plugin is creating load problems with my websites. Can't blame it on anything else without anything else activated.
Yes, multiple sites of mine with the same issue from this plugin..
I used to love this plugin.
Do not waste your time here like I have for the last week.
It has gone from "OK" to bad to worse with this plugin over many months. I'm deleting shareaholic from all sites I admin and recommend other WordPress admins do the same.
#1 The plugin is loaded with spyware I found out after researching why the authors would update so often. The plugin sends data to adnxs.com, DataXu, Bluekai, shareaholic.com, and probably more, who knows. The authors acknowledge this saying the user tracking is for "analytics" but it is actually more about giving personal data to other companies to monetize. Shareaholic is a desperate "startup" so this is what they do.
#2 Too many updates. Shareaholic was updating once a month (OK fine) then they were spamming every week. And now it is Every. Single. Day.
#3 They hijack shares and steal your visitors away by having them sign up for a shareaholic.com account. Funny because for a while I didn't know the plugin started doing this until I was tipped off.
Looking at all the other bad reviews I'm not alone, and a quick trip to google shows that shareaholic is a company with a history of spying and user complaints.
Browsing the forum I see they just made an option to turn some of the unwanted crap off yet the crap is still on by default and had to be discovered and complained about in the first place. You can try to disable each cruddy option but with all the "miscellaneous" updates you won't know what new spy "features" you are going to get from shareaholic and its affiliates.
This has been a lesson to not trust a plugin by a "startup" especially one that you need to "opt out" of. Do your research. Don't bother playing cat and mouse with bad plugins like this one.
I was really surprised how nice this plugin admin interface is. Really comfortable and works in minutes.
I loved this plugin until the last update, now it won't show any related posts at all. I have uninstalled and re-installed several times, nothing works right except the share buttons.
It's an excellent plugin: Quick to set up and looks good on the websites. Especially with the latest update that allows to add buttons on the side of the page and the cookie consent bar, this plugin is perfect. The statistics are a nice plus too.
Aesthetic customization of the buttons would be a nice plus, but beside that i truly believe this to be the best social sharing plugin out there.
Great plugin that does exactly what it says. I have 2 suggestions:
1) Having a standard facebook like button would be nice to go along with the facebook share. Perhaps a google +1 button as well.
2) I'm using the horizontal buttons and it would be nice if they were bigger, both height and width.
Thanks again though, I've looked for a long time for something like this.
Bluekai is used by this plugin - collecting data for someone else's purpose is not on, particularly without the site owners permission - Ghosting identified this for me. This can be turned of by disabling the analytics.
The plugin should be clear when this type of activity is builtin.
Not able to give a full review because I've just started using it. I do have to say that the user interface is clean and looks good. Time will tell about the rest... loading pages and the other external processing.
