Sell photos, prints, videos and pdf's online through WordPress in seconds. Built by creatives, for creatives.
I use this plug-in since the very first week of it existence. Remember, when you set up a shop than you kind of married to it. You have to spend many hours or days to do it. Since the beginning of this plug-in many others appeared, like woo plug-in for photographers.
Sell media did change a lot of stuff during its life but all the changes were chaotic and made by someone who has no experience in selling photographs (especially the sell prints extension). postage configuration, was changed at least 4 times each time applying completely different approach. And not even once having it done good.
After one of updetes, I started to receive empty sales reports. To find out what I have sold I have to go around to paypal and see details there.
For first few months I have lost around 600€ as the plugin didn't take my customers through the sale proces and stucked somewhere in between (some problems with selecting the country for shipping). Around 40-60% of my sales from this period were lost forever.
Maybe for creator it was just a bug (not the only one) but loosing this kind of money, for me wasn't funny.
If you want to play around than this plugin is good. I am serious photographer with two galleries in Spain and I definitely say that there are more options at the moment to choose from.
I lost the patience to it and just waiting for the end of summer when I will have more time.
I cobbled together the Sell Media plugin with a Photocrati theme, and for the most part, the Sell Media plugin works like a champ. The guys are doing a great job of improving the plug-in all the time. There aren't a whole lot of choices out there to sell stock image downloads, and so far, this one has worked the best for me.
After an update, I sometimes have to make some minor changes to CSS, but that's a small price to pay to get feature improvements. Keep up the good work, guys!
This is a great plugin. Although some features do not work for me because I use a CDN, it is still a great way to sell prints through your own website. You must use the Photo Reprints extension to do so, but it works well.
I would like to see more display and layout options to further customize my site.
Keep up the good work fellas!
I have a question about the "sell media" plugin. When an item is sold, the download link sent to the customer does NOT work. I need help resolving this issue asap. PLEASE and THANK YOU
The blog I need help with is girlsofecstasy.wordpress.com.
does anyone here can give a sample site that uses this plugin?
thanks John.. :)
I installed the software and it was a breeze getting git up and running with paypal. Nice work in making this all very simple.
Photo présentation and selling works great and would command 5 stars, but, contrary to what it says in the description, video support seems to be missing. All I get is an ikon.
What would be needed here, is a video preview function, either by automatically down-converting the video file or by providing means for us to upload a preview file that can be viewed right on the spot by the customer before he makes his buying decision.
Is there anything like this in the works, or should I look for a different solution?
I have spent a lot of time renaming my images after uploading, mainly due to having to navigate back to the Sell Media Items list and then clicking on the next image. It would be soooo helpful if we could have a navigation button in the image window so we could select the next image to edit. Thank you!!!
One of the worst plugins and support I've ever experienced.
I asked the support how to navigate from image to image within a collection (not going across into a new collection/category). They sent me a link to a page with code. I spent 5 or 6 hours trying code from this page which either didn't work or broke the page. So, I went back and asked exactly what code to use. Another support worker replied saying I've already been told and attached a link to another page with code. I spent more hours trying this. Same result. So I asked again why they couldn't just tell me what code to enter instead of giving me links, as in my opinion giving somebody clues isn't what I would call support. The reply was to tell me that I wanted wasn't possible. Unbelievable.
I also asked why the magnifier wasn't working on safari - the reply was that it doesn't work with the copyright logo - choose one or the other.
They also quoted me for some custom work (which wouldn't even have brought this dreadful plugin up to minimum standards) and when I wanted to go ahead they huffily declined - presumably because I had let them know that their "support" and time wasting earlier was not great.
You also cannot have a "collection" that does not show on a collection page - every category or collection you make shows up with the rest. Terrible for limited editions or any other reason you may have for separating them.
The plugin and themes they use also butcher images and no matter what - all images end up pixelated. Ideal for selling quality images online!!!
You cannot specify a price to an item, all prices apply to all images which is just plain stupid and very un-useful.
Then there was the general bugs and errors already mentioned on here.
Every step I took in developing a site using this plugin was a struggle, I ended up ditching the whole thing, starting again and building the site in opencart.
The money I spent on this has been completed wasted. Not to mention the time I spent persevering trying to make the best of this.
Weeks have passed since this happened and I still feel angry and let down.
A young product with massive potential! Compared to the dedicated stock photo web apps available, Sell-Media is much more affordable (free!); and remains comparatively affordable even with an investment in a matched theme and some commercial extensions from the authors.
Actually, at one level it's way better that those other dedicated stock photo web apps, simply because of the ease of styling and the richness of extensibility available within WordPress, and of course, the familiar and friendly WP admin interface.
At first I thought Sell Media might fail with a large library. But, while it still needs many tools for managing large data, Sell Media is reliably serving my site, comprising almost 4000 5MP images in eleven collections and around 10,000 keywords.
You can expect great support from Graph Paper Press if you buy a matched theme or some of the extensions.
Good plugin but would benefit from:
More modular shortcodes to easily add to templates such as:
[sell_media_item] - Would show the individual item page so we can easily add it to say a full width template that our theme has etc.
Or even more modular so we can have complete control over the layout of the item display:
Also needs a fix to be responsive, at the moment you can't checkout on your mobile.
Good otherwise, just not practical for my styling needs.
