Adds userfriendly multilingual content management and translation support into WordPress.
Unfortunately, this is a plugin with potential, but when your wordpress is updated, you can not correct or update your texts until the release of the latest version of qtranslate. If you use it, do not let your wordpress will automatically update and wait for the new version of qtranslate before updating your system. I have been using this plugin, but finally I have decided to replace it with an other one good with any wordpress version.
Unfortunately the author, Qian Qin, is often too busy to busy to test the plugin with new releases.
He has also included some code that automatically disabled the plugin at every core update. Now that updates are automatic, this will automatically break your site.
Many people have offered to contribute or help and he has ignored them.
This could be a good plugin, but instead it is a serious pain. With ove a million downloads at the mercy of one negligent author, this is a disaster
Save yourself a lot of trouble an use WPML, polylang or some other better supported solution.
Really good plugin, simple to use.
Really bad support/updates. Forum has thousand of spam posts (no admins?), last qtranslate release 2 months ago, no way to code-contribute (git?) to the development.
Like in the title. Please, users, don't use this! (Paid) WPML and (free) PolyLang are much better.
So, first of all, there was a bug in Version 2.5.38, which rendered the plugin incompatible with WordPress Version 3.8... simple fix... as posted by ps3hero:
add "define('QT_SUPPORTED_WP_VERSION', '3.8');" to qtranslate.php it works fine with wordpress 3.8.
You need to add the widget, otherwise you won't have the buttons to change languages.
I wanted those flags in my header, rather than a sidebar.. simple... add...
<?php echo qtrans_generateLanguageSelectCode('image'); ?>
I wanted borders around the flags, no bullet points, and a horizontal alignment rather than vertical... that's possible to... just read the FAQ.
All is can say, is it works a treat and I can't believe it's free.
That made my day.
It does all I need:
- translated pages
- translated menu items
- shortcode for Language Selector widget:
<?php echo qtrans_generateLanguageSelectCode('dropdown'); ?>
Well done, thank you!
I have this plugin in my website since a lot of years.
It's very simple and effective.
For me, it doesn't reach the five stars for these reasons:
1) Problems with some themes (with the format dates)
2) When a new version of wordpress is release, the plugin takes a long time coming.
However, for me is the best translate plugin for wordpress. I would wish to pay for this plugin because it guarantees the continuity with the new versions of wordpress.
Thanks Qian Qin for this gift, but, please, don't let it die!!!
Allow to make a website withe multiple languages in a simply way. I had already the website running in one language and it did not gave any problem.
