This plugin will make all BuddyPress/bbPress pages private while leaving your WordPress posts/pages public.
If you do not have bbpress installed you will get a fatal error when visiting the site while not logged in (it was supposed to be fixed in version 1.2 but it still exists).
To fix it just go to line 8 of private-bp-pages.php and comment out the following section...
/* bbp_is_single_forum() || bbp_is_single_topic() || */
Other than that, it works great.
Am very happy with this. Was getting worried as I was setting up my social site that people who were not logged into the site, would still be able to see the members list, and if they have the link...can directly view the member profiles. Did not want that, wanted to give the members privacy cause before launch saw that the user would be able to see the entire profile and their details.
AS A RESULT OF THIS PLUG IN, members can have their privacy. Just like the page stated...the WP site identifies if the person is a member/logged on. If not, it will redirect the user to create an account the moment they want to see anything with a member detail/information on it.
JUST LOVE IT and am happy it works!!!!!
Cannot understand the buddyPress hype without the feature of having a private community. Almost saw my project fail. Thanks for this plugin!
Installed this with BuddyPress 1.8.1 and implemented the mod to line 8 of private-bp-pages.php as specified in the 'Readme' and it produced exactly the result I wanted - all public pages available to casual visitors, BP pages not available except to subscribers logged in. It's early days yet as I have only just installed my first Buddypress on a test site, and this privacy is essential, so far so good. Well done, and I cannot understand why other developers are making such heavy weather of what should be a core feature of BuddyPress. Keep up the good work.
Thank you so much for this, did just what I needed (and I added is_bbpress to hide the bbPress forum index as well). Wonderful plugin.
THanks so much man, WHY did it take so long for someone to write this plugin??? Also I could not find this in my google searches or buddypress searches, so if that could be fixed more people could benifit from it.
We use a membership plugin which does not recognize/protect BuddyPress pages. Private BP Pages solved our problem and was easy to install and configure.
This plugin was just what I needed.
