The most popular WordPress gallery plugin and one of the most popular plugins of all time with over 7.5 million downloads.
This plugin was perfect for what I wanted but their certainly is always room for improvement. Like when you click through the thumbnails it will only click through to the last thumbnail of the first page, not on the very last image you've uploaded. However, still very easy to use.
I really like how it naturally keeps the pictures separated by gallery - when you have thousands of pictures, it's just not practical to drop them all in a flat list media area. The slideshows are so easy to make: go to the tool's page, type a name for a gallery, do a batch upload, then click the toolbar button when editing a page or a post.
If I end up needing more capability, it looks like I can subscribe to the pro version for $39/yr for an unlimited number of my websites. But the free version isn't crippleware, so I'm happy that I'm not getting sucked into a black hole.
The quality so far is pretty good, it's working with the theme named "Responsive" just fine. The one bug I have found is during batch uploads of a few dozen 3 MB originals (like 20-30 photos) -- the uploader failed to complete. I don't want 3 MB photos for these slideshows anyway (I'd use a portfolio plug-in for those anyway), so I shrank them ahead of time and that worked around the problem.
It is inconsistent. Sometimes you click on a thumbnail and get a slideshow and other times you get a link directly to the pic. it's a crap shoot.
Best Image gallery.. but, could use some tweaking
If only they'd integrate the WordPress built-in media library. It's so annoying having to upload multiple photos to WordPress and then to NextGen also. Otherwise it's awesome.
After update to latest version admin area is broken
Liked it!!! Makes managing media simpler.
Easy to use gallery management.
Easy to upload.
Easy to present galleries and albums.
The Not Good:
Recent images widget eats portrait thumbnails, though shortcode in a widget (which is yet to have all options documented) works.
Hidden images in thumbnail view breaks layout.
Response to support forum has been non-existent when questions are posted. While I don't expect personal service to every question posted on a free plugin's support page, some attention to issues would be nice. Would hesitate to look into a pro license as a result.
Gold standard for image galleries. The developers keep this well updated so it's one worth putting time into learning & working with. Have trouble with fancybox sometimes, would like to see a complete mobile solution... but there are tons of extensions out there that likely cover these bases.
Es el mejor plugin que he encontrado para mostrar galerías de imágenes.
