The most popular WordPress gallery plugin and one of the most popular plugins of all time with over 10 million downloads.
Through the years, I've tried to install this plugin on multiple instances on various WordPresses.
Every single time, this plugin breaks whatever site I install it on.
My recent site: I'm working on a site for a client, so I decided to install this rather than take the time to develop my own plugin.
Even with Ajax pagination, navigation was broken and loaded nothing and other little issues kept popping up so I simply removed it. I KNEW, I JUST KNEW I should have made a backup of the site doing that because now the site is all jacked up.
The front page had various glitches and things moved 10 to 20 px in various directions. (Don't ask me how a gallery plugin can do this.. it's beyon me).
Also, the client needs a lot of her pages to end in .php so I have a plugin that adds the .php extension to some of those pages. Now, every single one of those pages is broken and nothing I do will work.
Needless to say, I get to spend the rest of my day shifting through a database and code to see what the hell NextGen broke. Every single time I install this damn plugin, something like this happens. EVERY.. SINGLE.. TIME.
i was frustrated by not knowing where to start once I loaded it, but eventually got there. Hopefully the introduction will explain the basic idea so you dont have to go directly to the help section to understand the rudiments.
Been using NextGen Gallery since 2011 and have never had any issues. I love stability!
I saw this had the highest rating so I tried it out on a page I'm working on for a very simple "only-for-looks" gallery with no controls.
First of all, controls aren't that obvious and menus are not logically laid out, but I could have gotten used to that. The big problem is that as soon as I figured out the shortcode and was expecting it to work, it threw a "jQuery not defined" error. I tried to look up where the problem was and added "wp_enqueue_script" for it but nothing worked. No good for me.
I had NextGEN Gallery working fine at 2.0.66, but upon updating to 22.214.171.124, my ALT titles had been replaced by my descriptions, and any steps I took to reverse this error was ignored by the plugin.
I am looking to roll back to 2.0.66, and I will not be updating the program again
Got before 126.96.36.199 always "path errors" (environment) with Win Server, Linux worked well anyway. Latest working Version was 1.9.13. Today made the update and - 188.8.131.52 works like a charm! Kudos!
I don't see nextgen option in create porfolio
3 stars for so many lines of code for free.
It would be 5 if there is not this stupid drag and drop galleries thing to be visible at the front end. Not at all WordPress logic and not at all user friendly for beginners. And WordPress is made for absolute beginners.
This is CMS world and Nextgen should follow this logic. Make galleries and subgalleries as WordPress categories and subcategories. Web beginner SHOULD NEVER had to make a gallery then go somewhere and drag and drop it just to could see it on front end.
this is a great gallery plugin and worth a try. However it does seem to have run into a few different conflicts depending on the set up of your website. Most of these conflicts are easily solved and it's just a minor annoyance more than anything.
My advice would be give it a try and see how you get on with it. Still the best gallery plugin I have come across.
