This plugins allows you to rename physically the media files by updating their titles. It also updates theirs links in the posts automatically.
Handy tool, saved me a lot of work already! Thanks!
Great plugin, very useful if you are like me and forget to name your images with SEO friendly names.
Saved me a lot of work thanks.

Now I only have to tell my clients to use a search engine friendly name instead of all the other stuff of getting images search engine friendly. But for most I use it myself which makes my life again little bit easier. Must still test it on multisite, but anyhow 5 star rating.
A client uploaded files with names like Smith_Mr..jpg. Due to the double periods, the files didn't display. This plugin let me fix them all with a single click each, without having to re-upload files. It saved a lot of time and hassle!
Thanks for the plugin but how to rename all to numbers not to titles name ?
Renames files, albeit a bit clumsily.
But all files inserted into posts don't get fixed. Files in slideshows etc don't get fixed. They all have to be fixed separately.
Featured files such as Header files get broken. You need to delete all and upload again.
The plugin works as expected. I was able to easily rename my image files, for the sake of better SEO. Warm thanks to the developer, Jordy Meow!
does what it says and it's just great!
ps. tweeted about totoro times!
We're finally transitioning one of our sites over from a single author setup to one in which each contributor can publish his or her own posts. Our file hierarchy is incredibly important, as we're dynamically creating ZIP bundles of each post (text, images, and audio) for visitors to download. Previously I had manually re-named each image prior to upload, but I can't trust our various authors to do this consistently.
This plugin is an absolute godsend! I had tried writing something similar myself, but this plugin covers most contingencies, and is well-written enough that I didn't have a problem integrating it with our platform (I tend to shun any plugins that generate errors in debug.log or result in a performance hit).
I've modified the plugin to include a hackish asynchronous automatic file renaming hook on save, and wrote the plugin author to see if he might consider adding this in an official update. He wrote back within minutes saying it's on the way, so stay tuned!
I am new to the Dashboard of a website, and mostly have to figure things out. Media File Renamer was so easy, and the creator was quick in answering my question.
