GetSocial adds an intelligent, lightweight, quick to setup floating social media sharing box on your blog posts.
At first i was very fond of getsocial. The features are exactly what I needed, and it seemed to position itself better in the expected places than other hover bars. But after using it a few weeks I found heaps of problems.
Today and yesterday I spent about 4 hours screening my code to solve problems that in the end turned out to be created by getsocial. Since the plugin also creates numerous W3C validation errors, trouble shooting is quite complicated.
I appreciate developers who sacrifice their time to develop plugins. Buggy plugins, however, are also a sacrifice on the side of the user. Uncounted hours are wasted by fixing broken sites.
That is especially true when the developer never even bothers to answer any support thread. This plugin's support forum hasn't seen the developer show up for 6 months.
Initially a very nice plugins, but the problems should be fixed, and peeking into the support forum every 2 months wouldn't be too bad either.
Quality plugin, but I'd like to see it slightly less of a burden on page load. Pretty much, all social media share plugins that float on either side seem to slow page loads.
All of the sharing works well; the shares don't open new tabs/windows, and you can add an e-mail button if you follow the instructions.
Looking into ways to cut down on load times. Other than that, works fine on WP 3.5.1 and you don't have to be a genius to add the code and css as explained on the plugin page.
And it beats out Digg Digg because this appears on your homepage (if you want it to), and the e-mail option actually works.
Great plugin. Very easy to use compared to some of the others I have tried. This simply works which is great. It also looks good and is modern. Very professional looking.
One thing that bothers me is that you can customize the text that pops up when someone chooses to share your post. I find myself editing it because I don't like the way it looks and I'm sure readers do that same. Maybe someone can enlighten me as to how to do this.
It does add a host of social buttons to the site, it is customizable to the point of size, color and location. I was supposed to be able to drag and drop the order but it wouldn't let me (not sure it is my browser Firefox 19 that caused the problem). The widget floats on the side of the screen and moves when scrolling. It is very effective, just not what I was looking for.
There might be a couple plugins rated a little bit higher BUT TRUST ME THIS IS THE BEST ONE OUT FOR SOCIAL SHARING AND TRACKING !!
But it doesnt do what I intended for, to insert it manually.
Gave the subj a try. Eventually deleted. Reasoning:
1. It sticks to the certain position and doesn't see setting parameters on that.
2. Long loading time (on my localhost takes 0.5-1 second)
3. Setting tips which come with encircled question signs don't work
4. Very low responce rate on the support forum, many requests remained unanswered.
