Include Google and OpenStreetMap maps in posts and pages, and map posts, pages, and other objects on global maps. Make WordPress into a GeoCMS.
I have a site with user profiles, but not using BuddyPress because BuddyPress couldn't give me what I needed, even in the latest version.
So I'm using custom post types for user profiles, and another plugin to allow users to register and create their own CPT, or profile.
Works well. Next I needed a map to show these people, and also include search capabilities for site visitors. Looked at different options and decided on this one because of the minimal code and open-source feeling community it has.
I'm not a PHP guy, but simply a designer who knows enough PHP to use advanced custom fields, etc. I had this thing operational in a day with a working map, search field and styling.
If you're on the fence, try this plugin. I just sent a donation, and really appreciate Dylan's work on this.
Detecting locations from existing meta is to me like magic !
I love this
Simple and powerful, no problems on wordpress 3.6
Very flexible, very powerful.
This is a flexible starting point for developers looking to extend WordPress as a CMS integrated with Google Maps API. It has some good options out of the box, but the beauty is how extensible this is. Works with custom post types and taxonomies easily and allows you to populate maps straight from WordPress while getting out of the way (if you want it to) and letting you dig into custom code with Mapstraction or native Google Maps API.
Works well from my experience. Extensible and well coded. Documentation could use a refresh and central location. Google code is kinda lame.
Fast way to add maps to your project!
Geo Mashup seems too simple at first look but is not, really, this plugin is very powerful and extensible!
