Found it hard to use
By , for WP 3.9.1

I was unable to match the version I downloaded with the documentation so I used a different product. It may be a great product but I just didn't have the time to try to figure it out.

A Perfect Download Manager
By , for WP 3.9.1

This is one of the best download manager plugins I've ever seen. Thanks for allowing file-uploads from server.

Wow, 15% of the reviews are VERY negative...
By ,

What was I thinking when I purchased pro after not being satisfied with the basic version of this plugin? I purchased it with PayPal, the only option and didn't see that this developer is not even PayPal seller verified. I was directed back to their website, had to register and put the invoice number in and it shows that the order is "processing". When clicked on further, it says that if I want to continue processing the order, I have to pay, and it sends me right back to PayPal to pay again. This is an indication of the lack of support and carelessness of the developer.

The free version has too many limitations for me but it worked fairly well. It's probably why their are 286 five star reviews currently, because it's free and good enough. The pro is apparently a hornet's nest of trouble.

PS: I am so new to WordPress. Apparently I gave this guy 5 stars while writing a negative review. Maybe other did too. On editing, I can't change my rating. I expected to be able to it as I do elsewhere. Ooops.

Does just what I needed
By , for WP 3.9.1

I needed a way to restrict some files for download via a password (without a user needing to be registered on my site). This did exactly what I wanted.

In my opinion, this is far the best DM out there for WP

Works - needs tutorial, some basic features
By , for WP 3.9.1

Eventually got it to work, despite non-existent introduction/use tutorial instructions, bad user interface (that is, for me as the WordPress site administrator -- works fine for the site visitor).

Screenshots do not a tutorial make! Some basic instructions to create a file download button:

1. Use File Manager > Add new file to upload a file, which it calls a "Download Package". Ignore the main part of the window, the text editor screen. It does nothing! Don't select an icon -- it screwed up the button when I tried it.

2. Go to File Manager > Manage to find out what ID it's given your file.

3. When you're editing a page or post, click the new TinyMCE button, "Download Manager: Insert Package or Category." Use the "Insert Shortcode" tab, and click the first "Insert into Post". Make sure the id= part matches the ID from step 2. (No, it doesn't let you choose which file to make downloadable!)

And yes, I wasted a couple of hours figuring this out. Please Shoan, let your users accomplish the simple tasks simply!

We have CM Downloads and tried Download Manager
By , for WP 3.9.1

We had CM working. We tried Download Manager. Our developer said it is too much work to do all the initial set-up and wasn't worth doing it.
I see mention of a $45 Download Manager Pro version. I do not see it mentioned in the product description. If the Pro version is easier to use by my end-users and easy to install by the developer I may be interested. Please let me know. Thanks.

Payed for support but didn't get any: 5 days of silence
By ,

Fine when it works but in my case it didn't (unable to upload or download any of the files) couldn't get any support to fix the problems; despite multiple support messages and a direct email over 5 days. My own client decided to ditch it. I asked for a refund (for the support I paid for at the start of the week but didn't get) and was refused; unethical behaviour. Don't touch this plugin with a bargepole.
