I was looking for a sophisticated plug-in that could allow me to perform maintenance, and which would manage anonymous, and registered users by role. I also wanted to ensure that the plug-in was reliable and easy to use, and to understand the implications of any decisions or configuration settings.
I've tried a number of different plug-ins, and I know that the authors/developers all worked hard, but none of these other plug-ins compared to Coming Soon Pages.
First of all, this plug-in actually works, which is perhaps the most important aspect of the whole thing. Secondly, the interface is clean, and organized, while also being extremely flexible. All aspects of style and display can be modified to suit your wishes.
When used for maintenance, it's fast and easy to learn. I spent about 60 minutes doing my research, communicating with the author about a few questions, implementing, and testing it. Now, that's a pretty remarkable timeline for a product that is so complex.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that just about each question I asked seemed to unearth more flexibility, which was easily utilized by selecting options in an organized manner. For example, when I asked if I could remove the fields from the maintenance screen that capture users contact info, I found that a simple drop-down choice quickly allowed this. But, I also discovered that the logic to display all of the various data elements are visible and controllable by me, through the settings page within the WordPress Dashboard. With this level of flexibility, I could change the order of any of the elements which are derived through PHP, without ever having to write a single letter of PHP.
I plan on using this plug-in primarily for maintenance, so the idea of having a countdown timer which only shows days, rather than hours and minutes does not help me, so John offered to create new elements, which I could use to apply display logic to, and show a countdown timer in hours and minutes, rather than days and months. Simply brilliant...
Well done John, and thank you for developing this product.
