Add albums, photo, audio/video encoding, privacy, sharing, front-end uploads & more. All this works mobile/tablets devices.
I rarely review plugins however, when I first used this plugin it had many issues when it launched so I left and started using another one which lacked the features I needed. I used the other plugin until I felt that rtMedia was up to par since it had all the features that I needed and I felt that it had a promising future.
Like many of you I was hesitate because who wants a crappy and buggy plugin. Now since returning for almost a year, I can say that it has been very stable for ME. I've been lucky to say that I haven't had any issues thus-far only requests for feature enhancements.
I will not go into the Pro Version because this is about the FREE version.
If you want to allow your users to upload photo albums, audio and videos, then this is a good plugin.
This plugin offers good functionality . Masonry cascading grid layout is good.Glad to see more file extensions support for video and music files.
Finally we got the long awaited plugin for bbPress. We had been searching long for media options and rtMedia is just perfect. Good work team..!
Support is awesome as well :)
This is really a good plugin for my buddypress based family members site. The perfect solution for images uploads and specially I like how it gives feel of facebook :)
Thank you again. Good Job..
It does work... watch out for others screwing up wordpress behind your back. Most importantly, ask for help, if all else fails, try it on a new installation to ensure its not the plugin doing crazy things.
I've never been able to get all of its features to work at once, but was happy just to get the basics...the capability to let my site's members upload graphics and video. Unfortunately, something happened with an upgrade and now that doesn't even work. I'll click on Media and get nothing but a block of text that used to be the commands to upload, edit, etc. no interface whatsoever.
My research for a solution has been in vane. I can't understand the language used to describe solutions, is targeted to programmer types and is inconsistent in its terminology. Articles I've read from others is equally discouraging! It seems I'm in the same boat as a lot of other people.
This plugin is the best for allowing users to upload pictures and media, given that the other option (bp-media or bp-album or something like that) ceased updates long long ago.
I give major applause to the team who develops this plugin, as they are constantly working on updates for it, and have found ways to monetize premium addon features, so hopefully they will continue to update and improve this important piece of the buddypress puzzle.
The main problem with this plugin is that it completely fails with many themes. Currently the amount of themes that are well suited to use with buddypress is very small, and most of the recent buddypress compatible themes are bootstrap based or similar. Rtmedia will not display images on gallery pages with most of these modern themes.
This may change one day, but currently I am assuming that the rtmedia plugin uses some of the same naming conventions and or files that bootsrap based themes also use - and conflicts arise.
There are a few theme options that work with rtmedia, however those are very limited.
Sadly the choice as of today for buddypress users is to have a small theme selection and no good way for users to upload photos, or use rtmedia as the best option for uploading media, but only have a few theme options that will work with buddypress and rtmedia.
This is an issue for buddypress in general, and not particularly rtmedia's fault that buddypress after years of being released still lacks the basic functionality that other social media scripts have offered for years right out of the box without all the problems.
I wanted to use this plugin but after looking at the $149 base price PLUS much more on the Add-Ons, it looks like a solution for people that can spends few hundreds at least.
Even some big software are not that expensive.
Appears to be good plugin but too pricey.
Does what it pretends to do. Could give the option to manipulate the menu. My users have problems with going to "my page" and then doing all from there...
While I respect, even if not embrace, RTmedia's decision to commercialize on BuddyPress media and re-name it, I've had mixed feelings towards the plugin ever since.
The basic free features give you about enough to get started,
but if you actually want to set your site apart from most others,
there's going to be a $149 pricetag behind it,
an EXUBERANT amount of money!
While I agree with why most of the PRO features aren't available
to free users, there are two features, whose lack of presence in the free version of this plugin is an outrage and a disservice to free users: Moderation controls, (which any responsible media plugin
should have in both free and paid versions,)and Album Privacy.
You have a ton of great features, RTmedia-PRO, and have
already promised that more, better features are on the way!
Why, then, can't basic free users at least have access
to these more basic features at some point?
