The easiest, most effective way to secure WordPress in seconds.
I've had to revise my review a couple of times. Have given the benefit of the doubt with the "transition" to Ithemes more than once. But this is simply a once really good plugin that has essentially been destroyed. I'm migrating every site I manage to other security plugins before they either break them again or have my hosts shut me down for bandwidth / resource usage violations. I'd support Chris Wiegman again in a heartbeat... but not Ithemes.
Very concise but thorough list of things to fix, and does a great job of taking care of a lot of it for you.
This plugin tweaks many functions, some which may lock you out from your own site.
My recommendation for new WP users is to read the tips for each function and start with the default settings and you'll have a much safer WP installation.
Then learn more about the many settings and what they actually do.
Better to be safe and happy, than safe and sorry =)
OLD BETTER SECURITY BETTER THAN NOW!! very mixed and im giving this error.!!!
Unable to release a lock on your .htaccess or nginx.conf file. If the problem persists contact support.
777 .htacces and config but giving again!!
Updated plugin, got white screen of death. Had to go into the files via cpanel and manually deactivate it (by renaming the folder). It was a great security plugin but this makes it completely unusable. Sorry to see it go.
I updated plugin this morning and deactivated to do some task. After that, I was not able to access my admin account at all. It even screwed up my database, so I can not even access MySQLAdmin. There is no way to fix it unless the datavase is recovered by hosting provider.
What a horrible experience. I would never use this plugin again.
This plugin gives the impression of security, but shortly after installing it on two web sites, those web sites were hacked - hackers placed a big banner all across my sites saying I'd been hacked. This plugin DID NOTHING to protect our sites from a brute force entry - even though I got "green" on every bit of their "list".
Now, after updating the plugin from Better WP Security to iThemes Security, I get this error message and no access to admin:
"Fatal error: Allowed memory size of 41943040 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 30720 bytes) in /home/username/public_html/wp-admin/includes/deprecated.php on line 529"
The only way to regain access to admin is to delete the plugin folder using ftp client. I'm probably better off without this plugin anyway.
The Better WP Security version was AWESOME!! missing a tiny feature or two.
The iThemes is TOTALLY CRAP!
It has destroyed EVERY site that was updated on multiple servers.
** WARNING **
DO NOT RUN THE UPDATE ...or accept your risk.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
I had to rename the plugin folder to get each blog working again.
...not to mention, after running the update, it causes FireFox to consume all my system resources, forcing me to complete reboot my PC just to get it usable again.
its awesome ..it increases the sites security dramatically....
I had Better WP Security installed on two of my websites. After the "upgrade" to iThemes Security, I do not have access to the admin sections of my websites. The admin login page cannot be found, and the sites did NOT revert to the default login URLs.
I loved the program before the "update" and I may still like it after the update, but I have no way of knowing since I cannot log into my sites any longer. I'm hoping someone will be able to give me a solution soon. My next step will be to revert my sites to a backup and uninstall this plug-in.
