Schedule complete automatic backups of your WordPress installation. Decide which content will be stored (Dropbox, S3…). This is the free version
Backed up with this plugin on AWS EC3 and it closed down my site - 'fail'
Now when I go to my site I get this message
"Error establishing a database connection"
Although others have had great success with this, I do not recommend using it.
I've been using BackWPup Free since WP 3.5.2 and up through 3.7. At first, it seems to work great. After a week or two, however, the backup jobs I defined disappeared. This behavior is repeated on 14 different WordPress sites.
When I made contact with the developer I was told they don't offer help for the free version, but if I'd like to buy the pro upgrade I would at least gain the privilege of talking to someone about this show-stopper bug.
No, thanks. I'm not going to pay to upgrade from broken software on the off chance someone might be able to eventually make the plugin fulfill it's primary purpose.
Can't get it working on free version so definitely will not risk getting paid version. Shame their so tight with forum support (Blurring out replies in forum)I want a pro version plug-in but won't waste my time here if i can't get the free version working with my install. My money is going somewhere else.
Constantly dealt with timeout errors, incomplete TAR files, unable to use any compression techniques, and plugin won't delete old backups no matter what I set it to. Cherry on top? No plugin author response on these help forums. Go ahead, look at all the started threads. All users needing help. Rarely an author response. Guess they only respond to the paid pro version. Shame.
For those looking for a plugin without the above mentioned issues and one that has an active author, check out XCloner. Running sweet on my WP install. And my total backup is about 10GB! Finally...
Lo desistalo despues de una pérdida de tiempo para que quiere un plugins de copias de seguridad que no tiene la opción de restaurar. Eso es engañar a la gente es medio plugins
The biggest disadvantage of this plugin against other backup plugins: you cannot restore your database with this plugin!
So I see no sense in using it!
From WordPress 3.5.2 (when I first installed the plugin) to 3.6, I always get warnings and timeouts, and then the job finally completes. I ignorantly didn't verify my backups, and when I eventually did, they didn't seem to be properly encoded, so I couldn't recover them. Looking at the support forum, the plugin creators seem to utterly ignore us free users. I mistakenly thought that a freemium solution would be superior, but not in this case. I've dumped this plugin and I've switched to Online Backup for WordPress, another free solution, which works perfectly for me.
very strange but after update my wp-site to 3.6 i had also an update of backwpup, after installing this update backwpup was removed from my site, tried installing this plugin again, but it did not work again.
I attempted to use this plugin to backup my medium sized wordpress multisite installation and during the DB Optimize process, the entire website stopped responding and was showing database connection errors. Upon investigation, I found that there were about 30% of my 488 tables "In Use" according to phpmyadmin.
After much research, I found that I was able to manually (via SSH) use myisamchk to force the table back into operation.
If you are encountering this problem, use the short tutorial found here (it's the one that I used)
My wordpress install is now functional and I will gladly be putting up an unfriendly review of this awful plugin wherever seems fit.. Thanks for nothing BackWPUp!
While this plugin used to work just fine, the last few updates have made it completely unusable (whether scheduled or manually launched), but most frustrating is the complete lack of response in the forums (we're talking months).
3 of 98 support threads in the last two months have been resolved.
