Schedule complete automatic backups of your WordPress installation. Decide which content will be stored (Dropbox, S3…). This is the free version
WP Multisite users are aware that standard backup routines either don't work or don't fully support multisite. Mulitisite admins are aware that breaking out a single site for a rollback is not for the weak of heart. BackWPup doesn't automate the restoration of a single site for you, but it does make it possible. If you select the save database option you can have a nightly backup that you can use with your SQL management tool to restore or roll back sites or the entire database. And do let it push to cloud storage. It keeps a local copy but just in case your server is wiped or corrupted, this will give you a recovery path.
I recommend this plugin for any install, but for large multisites, i suggest you skip backing up files with it and use a standard backup routine aimed at just the uploads and blog.dir directories to run nightly backups separately. That will make your backup of the multisite itself smaller, faster, and less of a burden to your server.
And, I have seen people say the backups that come from this plugin are corrupt. That is almost always due to file names or types that are not compatible with archiving the backup. Read your logs. Check your warnings. If you eliminate them, you will find the process will work.
This plugin succeeded for me where others failed (I'm looking at you Duplicator and you Online Backup). One cool feature is you can choose where you want your backup to go. So I sent mine to my Dropbox account. Nice and easy. In the future, I may look into paid options, but at the end of the day you can't beat free, and if it works...
Bottom line: I sleep easier knowing my site is completely backed up. Props to the plugin author!
It does what it's proposed to do.
This plugin saved me. Use the links on multiple sites, this plugin is essential for me. Thanks
This is a fabulous plugin. Really easy to use and it has a scheduler that works well.
BackWPup emails me the archive to my Gmail account ... what could be easier ?!!!? Love it !!!!!
The only thing you might want to be aware of: I wanted to store the backup file in my root directory ... I later found out that I did not have access rights to the root folder. When I tried backing up with internet explorer, it failed without showing an error message. When I used chrome, I saw a polite error message. By default the backup folder is the Uploads folder ... to which you will have access rights (suggest you trust the defaults).
THank you. working great (not using dropbox!)
This is perfect.
Simple, fast and easy to conf. Thank you.
Local daily backups at night, and monthly backups via email.
Most of us won't need the pro paid version.
At the beginning I was getting a "time out 10 seconds" error but phoned my hosting provider and they extended it to 30 seconds and everything started working like a charm.
I have been testing it intensively and never failed.
Thank you for such an amazing plugin, for free. If I needed the pro version extra-functionalities I would not doubt buying it.
Keep the good work!
Super simple plugin! I use it with my Dropbox and S3 account and works everytime with no problem! Great job!
