Housekeep expired transients from your options table
Definitely a valuable plugin that should be build into core. I believe they have plans for this in future versions so maybe in the future this plugin will become redundant. In the meantime however, a fantastic plugin, the developer should be proud and I hope they continue to support is as they have done to date.
We had more than 3m extra records on a site and the db snowballed to 1.3gb ( that was just the options table) after cleaning we got down to a few mb and are able to more easily work on the site.
It is more stable. After running the transients clean step I also optimised the tables as there was still overhead left in the db so it is a 2 step process ( especially for the larger tables.)
Thanks again. While I ended up running the sql query directly this is easier in a maintenance situation.
I had over 700 tranients in my database, cleared it down to 11. 11! Fantastic plugin that I didn't realize I even needed.
We will see how long it take core devs. to pick this up. I imagine quite a while - because too few are aware and then why bother? Nobody has asked for, or is evaluated to benefit from, fewer decisions because of too much in options table. Not sure that worked? Not like there is any reason not to wipe out old transients so way cool plugin.
My client's 15 MB database was instantly reduced to only 2 MB after I installed and activated this plugin; it deleted 13 MB of expired transients! Thank you for making it so easy to clean this junk out of the database to keep WordPress running at optimal efficiency.
In one my of clients' site, the transients grew up to 1 GB that made the site to crawl. We can't troubleshoot the site while it became unusable. Activating this plugin deleted all the transients and let us to troubleshoot the issue later on.
Fantastic, is all I can say, David!!
This just cut my database size down by 1/3, for goodness sake.
Definitely a must have til WP rolls the functionality.
