Akismet checks your comments against the Akismet Web service to see if they look like spam or not.
Simply horrible. Would not filter anything
Plugin akisment contains a virus!
akismet.php => PHP.Shell-83
I think WordPress community has to delete this plugin from access.
Mostly at weekend I look for new blogs and interesting topics and post/reply a comment on some of them.
In a lot of cases my comment is then recognized as spam and I'm threaded like a spambot.
It happens on a lot of different blogs. Since some weeks I practice it in that way that every time when a comment of me is recognized as spam I contact the webmasters and ask him "why".
When they look at my comment they also don't know why because it's a regular comment.
In former times I found akismet useful but nowadays its a pain because I now see it with the eyes of a reader and not just as a webmaster. I slowly loose the pleasure to comment on blogs.
Every webmaster should think about that if he or she wants to loose readers because of that.
Akismet used to work. It would catch the spam and put them in my spam queue, removing them from my comment queue and not send me an email.
Recently Akismet has been not catching spam and I get emails that comments are there in my comment queue which are really spam that Akismet should have caught. Sometimes Akismet then catches them but I've already gotten hundreds (608 this morning) of emails about comments waiting to be moderated.
I really enjoyed the assistance of Akismet when it worked.
Lately this plugin is a problem.....
First it started letting in TONS of spam....
Now ii seems to be doing false-positives for ALL of the commentors to my blog....
And the support for this pligin is among the mising.....
Be careful with this plugin....
Since the upgrade in wp things have gone sideways and it doesn't seem like the people supporting this is doing anything except counting how many downloads of the plugin they get everyday......
Activated. Then posted some spam comments.
Checked them with Akismet and it didn't even recognize spam..
5. ... you cannot "cripple" functionality in the plugin and then ask for payment or provide a code to unlock the functionality. All code hosted by WordPress.org servers must be free and fully-functional.
As with all guidelines, rules, and regulations, it's a matter of interpretation.
As I see it: You can only use this plugin with an API key that they provide, that they will only provide to you for free with a wordpress.com login. Rhetorically speaking, what if I'm not hosting my personal blog on wordpress.com?
I hope you see my point.
After activating the plugin, my media library's thumbnails disappeared for the second time. Re-trying, made it possible to track that the cause of this problem is Askimet. I don't like that.
