[resolved] Zip file incomplete or corrupted (8 posts)

    Hi Driskell,

I use WP Backup to backup my blog. I have undergone site redesign. When the webcompany transfered my website over to the new theme, the blog import was incomplete, many of my articles were clipped or deleted. I now am trying to reload my blog again from the WP backup zip file and I cannot unzip the file with winrar. Is my zip backup corrupted or incomplete?

The error message I receive is "unexpected end of archive"

    Hi James,

I think the file didn't download fully. When you first downloaded was the file in tact then?
You could you and use WinRAR to repair the file and it will potentially allow the files that are there to be extracted and just strip all the missing data out.

We are introducing a new feature to try mitigate this problem as some servers appear to mangle our response so the web browser doesn't know what size to expect and can't error if it doesn't get it all, which is of course an issue. This will hopefully be finished soon and will allow direct downloads that will work perfectly.

    Hi Jason,

I tried to repair the file with WinRaR, and then upload the SQL file onto my other website to see if it was recovered. The website crashed as a result of the new SQL file being uploaded. Is there anyway to extract even partially any of the information in the corrupted backupfile zip? I would be happy to manually transfer the articles over one by one, it beats rewriting every single one of them, or am I just screwed?

    Hi James,

When you mean crash what happens?
Does WP-Admin work at all? If login screen displays but you can't login it might be because the URL is different - WordPress database will only work on the same URL it was installed on unless some changes are done manually in the database to get it to work. So if this is a different website/URL it might be the reason.

I'm having the same problem. My full backup is 342 MB, but every time I try to download it, it craps out before reaching 200 MB. I tried finding the file on the web server using my FTP client, but couldn't find it. Can you tell me where I can find it so I can try downloading it that way?

    Hi PongGod,

We're working on a feature to get around all this at the moment and will hopefully be ready in February at some point.

If you go to wp-content/plugins/wponlinebackup/tmp/full/ you should find backup.zip.php in there. This is the backup file. If you download it, it will likely appear to be corrupt since we store it securely. If you have WinZIP or WinRAR it should be able to "Repair" the archive and make it a proper ZIP file.

    Hi Driskell,

Thank you for your response. I used the free coding application Notepad++ on the SQL file (right click and edit in Notepad++) and did a replace all with command to change all my original site domains to the new site domain- and the backup file loaded!!! I am transfering it over from there to my main site so I didn't lose everything. I am going to be much more careful in the future to UNZIP my backup file to make sure that it is NOT Corrupted on my backups. Thanks for the help!!
