When doing a Zip-Code search, the page goes blank after I hit submit.

I have read your FAQs and my theme is a Themeforest based theme. (Themeforest-related themes – Symptoms of conflict: Might affect the behaviour and output of BD shortcodes.)

I pinged the theme devolper, Ghostpool (buddy theme), and they dont know why this is happening. Do you folks by chance have an idea?

    Thanks for your time,

    Hi Brandon,

Well, first you need to ascertain whether the theme is the source of the issue here. Did you run a theme/plugin conflict test? Here is an article about how to test for theme and plugin conflicts with Business Directory, which may help pinpoint the issue: http://businessdirectoryplugin.com/support-forum/faq/how-to-check-for-plugin-and-theme-conflicts-with-bd/

Once you do that, you’ll know who to talk to more definitively. It’s possible it could be a simple jQuery conflict too. But without the results of that test, I can’t say for sure.

Yes, I had run the test and it actually is the themes fault. That is why I pinged the theme developer and they didnt know why the page was going blank – that is why I reached out to you folks wondering if you might know of something that could help out.

Well, without debugging it on site, there are a few things that could be the problem:
    – Invalid HTML (e.g. unclosed tags)
    – JQuery out of date on the theme (1.9 is the version they ought to be using, we are compatible with 1.7 and above, older ones have weird behavior)
    – JavaScript conflicts

There’s a plugin called Theme Check in the WP.org repository that can help you evaluate a theme’s weaknesses (lack of adherence to best practices/standards). That may shed some light as well.

This is what I have received from the theme author:

    1) Invalid HTML would not cause the whole page to go blank, besides the search results work in some cases. This is very unlikely to be the issue.

    2) The theme uses the jQuery version that comes with WordPress, as any theme should. All up-to-date plugins should work with this version.

    3) Your error console does not show any JS conflicts.

    4) The theme has already been run through Theme Check prior to be sold on ThemeForest.

With the thousands of plugins out there it’s simply not possible to make the theme work with all of them unfortunately. My last suggest is to enable WP_DEBUG in your wp-config.php to see if it returns an error when the search query is run.

At this point maybe it is a good idea to talk to your developer and see about hiring.
If you could put him in contact with me that would be appreciated.

    Thanks for your time.
    Brandon.
