z-index images in div #logo (5 posts)

I have figured out how to use the z-index to layer images in the header area but whatI am having trouble with is getting two images which are tagged to the div #logo section of the header.
Because the one would cancell out the other - would it not.
    Example:
#logo : Z-index 9999, relative, image loaded into theme options as logo.
#gif : Z-index 500, absolute, sml animated gif - sit in the "middle"
    # logo: z-index 5, relative, same as image 9999 but has a cut out for the gif to animated through.
QUESTIONS: what position should index 5 be?
How does absolute effect other browser as the gif fits snug within layer index 5
Is there a better way of doing this that would be more compaible to all browsers and responsive devices?
Thanking you in advance for your expertise on this one.

Not for this theme, no. The theme's developer has specifically asked for all related questions to be posted on the theme's dedicated forum.
