• Hello
I have a question. Is this done on purpose or is it a bug?
I noticed that even if I have 3 – 4 quite new Blogs (1 or 2 Posts each), exporting the database brings up a nearly 2 MB size file.
Looking into it, I noticed that there are complete Websites (Latest T-Shirt Offer for instance) inside the Database or any Link that appears in the Dashboard puts the website behind the link into the database.
Maybe this is one reason that it takes so long, when you want to edit a post until the site appears? It seems, that WordPress is moving through all the links, puts the websites into the database and then finally opens the edit page…
Not sure if I am right, but megabytes of stuff in the database seems not to be normal to me.
    What do you think?

  • You can remove the “zeitgeist” stuff from the Dashboard which would no doubt help….

Hmmm .. Sounds good .. but you didn’t tell how .. and I haven’t found a note or button or link to do that.
So, how do I do that?

    Some minutes later……………………..
Okay … thanks for the hint 😉

I removed nearly all lines of the file index.php inside the folder wp-admin … the Dashboard is empty now …

Actually I’d like to read wordpress news and see the links they provide … but why do they fill the database? That’s annoying.

Sorry – I was in a big hurry to finish the post, people showed up unexpectedly! Glad you figured it out, though. And as to why they fill up the database…. well, you’d have to ask the devs I guess. If you want some of the news, just grab the single feed from the dev blog (see link, top of page) and use your normal feed method.

Oh, another option: wp-dash plugin, which has “widgets” for things like feeds. Now, the plugin dev’s site is down presently I think, but if you want the plugin (which I’m using on practically all my own sites, though they’re all at 2.0.4 at this point), you can email me at vkaryl_at_bytehaven*dot*com and I’ll send it along.
