    Hi,

I generated a Sitemap using the 'Google XML Sitemaps' plugin. I received the following error when I submitted the /sitemap.xml url on Google Webmaster Tools using the ADD/TEST SITEMAP tool:

'Your Sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Please use a supported sitemap format instead.'

Is the file I submitted .xml or html? Where can I access the .xml file?

    Thanks,

    Peter

    Hi,

I had my site in Maintenance Mode so the Site Map couldn't generate until the site was live. Once I cleared Maintenance Mode the Site Map was ok.

I'm also having this problem. I've checked the sitemap.xml on the URL and it's not in HTML format at all.

Is there possibly something Google is doing differently to access the page that means wordpress serves a HTML page rather than the .xml?

Hello @awesomej check via FTP to see if you have a sitemap.xml file in your server. Once you have confirmed this then go to Google Webmaster Tools and check again.

    Kind regards
