I have been unable to update the network and receive the following error message:

I don't use multisite so this is a stretch, but that looks like a server problem to me. Have you asked you host about it?

Thanks for your suggestion. I did contact my hosting company prior to posting here. They initially found a problem and resolved it but I still was unable to update and they said:
I am sorry to hear you are still having issues with this. However, I can confirm that the subdomain is getting properly resolved on your VPS:

    root@lawfirm911 [~]# dig rhodeislandmotorcycleattorney.lawfirm911.com +sh
    direct-connect.lawfirm911.com.
    174.122.182.247

Have you tried disabling all your plugins then attempt to upgrade again?

I try disabling the plugins but that did not solve the problem.

... and the site works now. Have you done anything or has your host done something?

Hmm.. I added a multisite tag to the thread. Hopefully someone with more experience with multisite will notice.

  7. Go to http://rhodeislandmotorcycleattorney.lawfirm911.com/wp-admin

That should auto-update it for you.

When I logged in to the individual site, it was updated. However, that did not fix the network update problem because if I click on network update, I still get the same error message for the same site.

I found that the network is not updating because I have an error message that is showing up at the top of all of my websites. As you indicated, if I go to the dashboard of the subsite it will update and the error message is gone.

This site has an error message at the top of the page because I have not yet logged into its dashboard which will update the plug-in and get rid of the error message:
    GrandRapidsaccidentlawyer.com

So, my question is how to fix the problem so that the network update in Multisite works.

    Thanks.

  9. Generally those errors are caused by a plugin or a theme.

Mind, you shouldn't be rerunning the update.

When it fails, it should end with a number. Increment it by 1 and let it run through the rest of your subsites.

It appears to stop immediately with the first site which gives the error message. I really suspect the problem has to do with the hosting company.

  11. Okay, so look at the URL you get with that first site. Increment the value of the number in that URL by one. See what happens :)

That will help you sort out if it's just that site or not.
