    This might be a useful plugin, but you have to register, you have to opt-in to the newsletter and you have to read several screenfuls of hard sell to actually register.

    And then having registered and confirmed, all I get is the 'you need to confirm' screen.

    Very poor, going in the bin, easier to learn how to amend my templates!

    Yep, just uploaded it and got the same. What a bunch of garbage. As you said, time to learn to do it manually.

    And i never got the e-mail with the required info anyway (not even in my spam folder).Glad i saved the previous version of this plugin, as this one didn't change anything at ALL except from forcing you to register.

    It was a bit of disappointment to see the updated version and to be tricked to it.

    Try this one:
    http://www.transycan.net/blogtest/2007/10/30/custom-query-string-reloaded-for-wordpress-23-with-tag-support/
    no registration, no sign-up, just the good old-fashioned download.
    Enjoy!

    There is a simple hack
    1) activate the plugin
    2) log in to your database
    3) search 'wp_options' table for 'dppp_activate'
    4) Change 'option_value'to 2

    Send http://www.maxblogpress.com/ a bit of hate mail.

    I sent some hate mail his way. What a jerk. Fortunately, I have a copy of v1.6 that I was able to put back on the 3 websites I take care of.

    @funvill thank you! i made the mistake of registering a long while ago for another one of his plugins and i never could stop getting spammed with their "news letter".

    Custom Query String Reloaded (moshu's link) worked just fine for me (WP 2.5.1 install), so I'd recommend that instead of this plugin.

    Thanks Moshu, that is good stuff! The hard sale is a dealbreaker for dpp.

    I changed dpppOptionsPg function to the following :

    function dpppOptionsPg() {
    		load_plugin_textdomain('DiffPostsPerPage');
    		$this->dppp_request = $_REQUEST['dppp'];

    		$form_1 = 'dppp_reg_form_1';
    		$form_2 = 'dppp_reg_form_2';
    		if ( intval($this->dppp_activate) == 0 ) { // Activate
    			$this->dppp_activate = 2;
    			update_option('dppp_activate', $this->dppp_activate);
    			$msg = 'Thank you for registering the plugin. It has been activated';
    		}
    	}

    Hi all, what a sad string of posts.
    I'm assuming the above posters even though its over several months, by now have all disappeared.
    A pity really to see people so cynical about a good plugin developer.
    So you have to register and get a few emails, big deal, any idea how much work goes into these plugins.Personally, every plugin Ive had from maxblogpress has been excellent.And the latest is no exception, so if you want to see what you missed you can check it out.

    Maybe but most people don't use their blogs for "money making" opportunities, such as yours.

    The only word I hear on this forum is free, free, free.

    What I hear is Spam, Spam, Spam...

    Thanks for the tip, funvill, exactly what I did, got enough spam already and sure don't want more from some "money making blog" plugin developer with perhaps a hidden agenda. People who usually post plugins on this site expect absolutely nothing in return, except for kudos.

    My last words, Mike (I'm sure that quite a few people will agree), there are excellent plugin authors who contribute their work for the simple pleasure of coding something useful for other users while there are others who don't and want something in return.

    I don't want another "newsletter" from someone standing on his soapbox, preaching the virtues of money making opportunities which most blog users don't care about.

    According to your comments, you don't seem to be happy with what other users (and a moderator) made on this thread and you also claim "The only word I hear on this forum is free, free, free.", tell me, how much did you have to shell out for WP?

    Unfortunately, people reading this thread will either "patch" this plugin or try Moshu's solution, most people don't like having their email addresses end-up in some spammer's database.

    Different strokes for different folks...

    Good luck,
    Gene

    The final word on the matter.

    I shelled out (not my choice of words)Sweet fanny all.
    My comments have nothing to do with not being happy with users or moderators views, Each can have their own. But in my small opinion,
    raygene, you make your comments sound as though you speak for the majority of wordpress users. Not me !!

    Unfortunately, people reading this thread will either "patch" this plugin or try Moshu's solution, most people don't like having their email addresses end-up in some spammer's database.

    As for users suggesting hate mail, or hacking sombebodys code to simply avoid registering. Its not acceptable.
    Send the developer a dollar and sleep at night.
    End of story.
    mike.

    What a load of rubbish you talk michin4.
    I use plenty of his plugins never paid for one, he doesn't spam, you need to register for them yes, which I think is more than reasonable for the work that goes into them. Never had any problems with them, unlike a long list I could mention.
    And how may I ask are his descriptions misleading.
    You forgot to quote any.
    finally the end of this thread.
    Mike

    Sounds like there are only negative posts except for yours, are you the plugin author, part of his team or his lawyer? lOL

    he doesn't spam

    Chris wouldn't agree with you "@funvill thank you! i made the mistake of registering a long while ago for another one of his plugins and i never could stop getting spammed with their "news letter"."

    finally the end of this thread

    Hmm, only a moderator can call it quits... And I hope one doesn't, people need to find out the true nature behind this "gift" (with strings attached) to the WP community.

    Cheers,
    Gene

    Ever heard of honest programmers that believe in a No-Spam policy?

    LOL, goes with the rest of the garbage, such as the cheap Viagra ads and other Spam.
    Garbage is garbage and some guy standing on his soapbox preaching the virtues of Net marketing deserves to be blacklisted.

    FWIW I'm happy with the plugin itself, and don't mind the approach the author switched to, to get more possible customers/subscribers. If there had been a lot of hoops to jump through, or it was some sort of bait&switch thing, I'd have been pissed off, but overall its OK.

    I can understand the comments from people who are used to plain old vanilla FREE and easy to access code, but the author does seem to have been given a bit of a roasting here.

    (Not related to MaxBlogPress in anyway, just a happy WP user hoping to provide a little balance.)

    @funvill: The wp-options in my phpMyAdmin shows a record set as the type for option_value. How did you enter an integer in option_value?

    I don't need the answer myself, since I used Arraviv's edit, but some people are more comfortable with cPanel, and might be running into the same problem I did.

    This is a great plugin. I wish I knew enough PHP to remove all of the registration-related code. Arraviv's version is leaves most of it intact. Since it's GPL'd, we need to get a cleaned-up, registration-free version hosted here. Then MBP could still distribute their spamware while those who'd rather not be on a mailing list could download the noncommercial version.

    This site is a total pain in the buttocks. Even if you do try the link to unscubscribe, it won't let you. If you use the site that apparently is erm ... an anti spam policy...your email will not go through.

    I have then just blocked their ip and email from my email gateways. Too much issue.

    If you don't like MaxBlogPress's offering, there are other plugins to customize the number of posts per page:
    - Custom Post Limits (but it doesn't deal with the sorting order of posts);
    - Custom Query String Reloaded (already mentioned in this thread; works well for many, but not so well for me).
