Holy crap! The 5 minute install steps? Who the hell are you kidding Matt?
Where can one find the step-by-step installation instructions for WordPress (which is suppose to be the wonder all of blogs software)???

I don't know about "the wonder of all", but I haven't found better.
Give this a watch and see if it helps.
tonymuffin,
Reading is fundamental. Didn't you find enough answers in these other threads you started?

Just asking.
Wow... reading is fundamental... You know... I have read 3 different installation steps from 3 different sites. Do you think that is enough?
Just asking?
Sent to soon..
However... the one that really got me was the 5 minute installation... Don't you just love installation steps that are written assuming you already know what they are referring to?
Just asking?
"Where can one find the step-by-step installation instructions for WordPress"
More than one of us has put it right in your hands in the past couple of weeks. It just doesn't come any simpler unless you have someone who guides you in person.
What isn't happening for you, Tony? I know you have been struggling to set up your own server. Is that the actual issue still? Believe me. If that is new to you, then that is the real hard part. Not WordPress. WordPress itself is as easy as following the steps in the readme file in the download. On a properly configured server, five minutes is just about right to install WordPress.
What can we do to help you?
There's a certain assumption that has to be made when someone is installing a web app on their server.
The 5-min install even specifies
Here's the quick version of the instructions, for those that are already comfortable with performing such installations.
If you've NEVER done this sort of install before, then these clearly aren't for you, and you should start at the beginning: Where to Start?
Figure out where you are in the middle of this whole web installer crazy and go from there :)
Um...hm.... not sure where you are getting that assumption. I host numerous servers, IIS, SQL, Exchange. Setting up a server is not and has not been an issue here. Not sure where you guys pulled that one out of...
tony, how about from this that you wrote in another thread:
I am looking for step by step installation instructions for:
1. PHP on Windows 2003 / IIS6. I don't need to install Apache as I am already running a webserver.
2. MySql
3. WordPress
Now, instead of wasting everbody's time, why dont you start by explaining what you have done, and finish by what youre having trouble with.
tonymuffin, when you said this:
Don't you just love installation steps that are written assuming you already know what they are referring to?
I assumed you were a novice at this, or at least unfamiliar with the terms used in the 5 minute install, which still seems to be the case, as you complained about the 5 min install.
As whooami said, without knowing where you're actually starting from, we can't really help you much. :)

Yeah... what about it? It states that I am already running a webserver...
If you read further in the other post you will clearly see that PHP and MySQL are now installed. But you conveniently left that part out.
The next step now is to install WordPress. Get it??
So you guys stop your bitching... and read the posts. Pull you panties out of your ass and read the posts.
Tony,
Merry <insert holiday of your choice here>! It's probably because of the time of year that people are being patient with you; you sure are not helping us understand what your problem is because your comments lack any technical details.
Let's start with something basic. Please, try this. On your PHP and MySQL is now installed server create a text file called phpinfo-test.php. In that file insert one line:
<?php phpinfo(); ?>
Put that one file where ever you want to install WordPress such as in a /blog/ folder. Now point you'r web browser to that URL. If you used /blog/ then
http://yourserver-url.com/blog/phpinfo-test.php
If you got a nicely formatted PHP info page then scroll down and look for the section that is headed "mysql".
If this basic test does not work, then your server is NOT ready for WordPress and you will have to look elsewhere to make it ready.
If you have that output with mysql version etc, then you are probably good to go.
If the test was successful then follow the instructions starting with creating the database:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_2:_Create_the_Database_and_a_User
Edit: left out create the wp-config.php
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_3:_Set_up_wp-config.php
And next up with uploading the files:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_4:_Upload_the_files
and finally run the install script:
http://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Step_5:_Run_the_Install_Script
That's it, that's the whole thing. I hope you get it working and enjoy the holiday.
Let's see ...
You posted HOLY COW!!!! - in which ClaytonJames explained how to install wordpress, and when tonymuffin said he needed more help with regards to PHP/SQL, Otto pointed him to google, as that's outside the scope of WordPress documentation. No replies from tonymuffin after that.
INSTEAD we get another post. Where would I find? - In which tonymuffin asks for help with PHP installation.
I don't see any posts where you mention that you have PHP and SQL installed in your profile (which links to all posts you replied to), so I think it's fair that no one else mentioned it.
NOW! You say you have PHP and SQL installed, great! On to Installing WordPress! You should be able to follow the magic 5 min install. Download, setup your DB, upload to your server, configure, follow the on-screen steps.
If you're having a specific error, please share it here so you can be helped. Saying 'It doesn't work' is really hard for anyone on this volunteer forum to help you with. Heck, it's hard to do at work where I'm paid to be treated like this.
WordPress: 5 Minute Install
I host numerous servers, IIS, SQL, Exchange.
One of these statements is untrue. I know where my money would be.
I'm a novice with php and mySQL and while the 5 minute installation in fact took me about 7 or 8, I certainly found the instructions clear enough to use as a beginner.
It's unfortunate you came into WordPress with the attitude you did, and I'm surprised you received the relatively calm responses you did. Congrats to all those who managed to keep their cool with this guy.
